NASA is “anticipating”, which probably means hoping, the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) will land in an ocean rather than strike dry land. However, should all 1,200 pounds of it land on someone’s house it’s likely to leave a bit of a mess at the minimum. If its crash landing does serious harm, the question will be how did this happen and who’s to blame?

During the month of May, I shot Milky Way timelapse in central South Dakota when I had the time, and the weather cooperated. The biggest challenge was cloudy nights and the wind. There were very few nights, when I could shoot, that were perfectly clear, and often the wind was blowing 25mph +. That made it hard to get the shots I wanted. I kept most of the shots low to the ground, so the wind wouldn’t catch the setup and cause camera shake, or blow it over. I used a Stage Zero Dolly on the dolly shots and a “Milapse” mount on the panning ones.

Gorgeous.

While the title of the piece is considered offensive enough, it’s the thinking that made the study a reality that should be troubling.

In his incendiary piece, which has since been taken down, Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics, discussed the scientific basis for “Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?” Note that Kanazawa did not claim to have discovered why black women are perceived to be less attractive, or why he believed that black women are less attractive.

I’m just guessing but I doubt Kanazawa’s been laid in awhile, if at all. No one with a woman and any kind of common sense would publish such an article, let alone conduct research for it.

Betelgeuse ‘not likely to explode in 2012′
THE super-giant red star Betelgeuse in the constellation of Orion is destined to explode, but maybe not next year as some recent news reports have suggested and will not be as bright as some predicted. FoxNews.com reported Betelgeuse has already become a red giant, which indicates it will explode and become a supernova.

But experts say it is not likely to happen soon and it will happen far enough away that it will not hurt Earth.

Earth ‘to get second sun’ as supernova turns night into day
Earth will undoubtedly have a front row seat when the dying red supergiant star Betelgeuse finally blows itself into oblivion.

The explosion will be so bright that even though the star in the Orion constellation is 640 light-years away, it will still turn night into day and appear like there are two suns in the sky for a few weeks. The only real debate is over exactly when it will happen.

When the star’s neutrinos hit, we’re told nothing will happen. Then again, who knows? Maybe some of us will get super powers, we’ll become immune from illness, bugs with get bigger, cats and dogs will talk, we’ll see music…?

Warmers insist the Earth is heating up and they know people are to blame (and not because of anything the Sun may be doing). The problem is too many of us aren’t listening, buying green cars or sorting our trash. They’ve given us choices and we’ve been too stubborn to choose wisely.

Sounds like they’re done playin’.

Instead re-branding or coming up with scientific data that hasn’t been manipulated, behavioral scientists are looking back towards the best ways to (again) force us to come around to their way of thinking.

In attempting to come up with a reasonable answer to this, I’m trying to guess what else she could be holding…?

Perhaps she really is a time-traveller, sent back through the decades to make a jaw-dropping cameo appearance. Or maybe she was a maverick genius, secretly testing out advanced technology for the government and caught on camera at the wrong moment.

Whatever the explanation, this footage from a Charlie Chaplin promotional film in 1928 showing a woman apparently using a mobile phone has left viewers stumped.

There’s a logical explanation here somewhere. I’m just not sure when I’ll find it.

The environmentalists were going bat shit over the the BP oil spill, and with good reason. But it was also the usual display of progressive arrogance, like the world is so weak WE are actually capable of damaging it.

A newly discovered type of oil-eating microbe is suddenly flourishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Scientists discovered the new microbe while studying the underwater dispersion of millions of gallons of oil spilled into the Gulf following the explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig.

And the microbe works without significantly depleting oxygen in the water, researchers led by Terry Hazen at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., reported Tuesday in the online Sciencexpress.

Enviros claim the world’s temperature is above normal, arrogantly assuming what’s comfortable for us is the Earth’s “normal” temperature. They trumpeted their fact that we’d be living with oil-soaked coastlines for decades. Anyone see any video of soiled beaches lately (and don’t expect a retraction any time soon)?

Liberals love to talk within the like-minded, are all too ready to indoctrinate our kids, but let them have to talk to someone informed who disagrees with them?

Hollywood director James Cameron challenged three high profile global warming skeptics to a public debate at a global warming and energy conference. But Cameron backed out of the debate at the last minute after environmentalists “came out of the woodwork” to warn him not to engage in a debate with skeptics because it was not in his best interest.

A very compelling argument must have been made to convince a super-intelligent liberal like James Cameron to miss out on a golden opportunity to put unsophisticated, ignorant, climate deniers in their place.

UPDATE: Here’s how chicken-shit Cameron backed out of the debate he bragged about having…

Last March James Cameron sounded defiant. “I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads,” he said in an interview.

Mr. Cameron was attending the AREDAY environmental conference in Aspen Colorado 19-22 August. He wanted the conference to end with a debate on climate change. Cameron would be flanked with two scientists. It would be 90 minutes long. It would be streamed live on the internet.

They hoped the debate would attract a lot of media coverage.

“We are delighted to have Fox News, Newsmax, The Washington Times and anyone else you’d like. The more the better,” one of James Cameron’s organizers said in an email.

Everyone on our side agreed with their conditions. The debate was even listed on the AREDAY agenda.

But then as the debate approached James Cameron’s side started changing the rules.

They wanted to change their team. We agreed.

They wanted to change the format to less of a debate—to “a roundtable”. We agreed.

Then they wanted to ban our cameras from the debate. We could have access to their footage. We agreed.

Bizarrely, for a brief while, the worlds most successful film maker suggested that no cameras should be allowed-that sound only should be recorded. We agreed

Then finally James Cameron, who so publicly announced that he “wanted to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out,” decided to ban the media from the shoot out.

He even wanted to ban the public. The debate/roundtable would only be open to those who attended the conference.

No media would be allowed and there would be no streaming on the internet.  No one would be allowed to record it in any way.

We all agreed to that.

And then, yesterday, just one day before the debate, his representatives sent an email that Mr. “shoot it out ” Cameron no longer wanted to take part. The debate was cancelled.

A few years ago, I was called out by an anonymous liberal who publicly stated he wanted to debate me in a public setting. The only problem is when I agreed and requested a time and place, the liberal never responded to my acceptance.

James Cameron is yet in a long line of narcissistic, big mouthed, shit-talkin’ cowards. He can bully around his film crews, but can’t take the heat from those who don’t fear him for their livelihoods. Now one can see why his first two wives dumped him. No money is worth all that.

Is sending signals to aliens really a good idea?

When I first heard on Thursday that Senate Democrats were abandoning the effort to pass an energy/climate bill that would begin to cap greenhouse gases that cause global warming and promote renewable energy that could diminish our addiction to oil, I remembered something that Joe Romm, the climateprogress.org blogger, once said: The best thing about improvements in health care is that all the climate-change deniers are now going to live long enough to see how wrong they were.

I remember watching actor Ted Danson warn us all if we didn’t stop polluting the oceans, we’d all be dead in ten years from a lack of drinking water. He said that around 1989 and we’ve all lived long enough to see how wrong he was.

We were all told how global warming was going to create more Katrina-like storms we’ve all lived long enough to see how wrong meteorologists were. Lot’s of climate-related doom-and-gloomers made worthless, fear-based predictions and we’ve all lived long enough to see how wrong they were.

The only difference is that climate alarmists will keep on scaring little kids and impressionable college students and never admit how wrong THEY were… ever.

I’ve previously argued that while it’s never good to go looking for killers, trying to communicate with extraterrestrials is equally reckless.

We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet. I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach.

If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans.

I don’t necessarily agree with Hawking’s human-hating evaluation, but as we can’t even stop some 13th Century throwbacks from blowing up discos or subway trains, sending invitations to who (or what) knows what with unknown intentions and weaponry we can’t even imagine is not very smart, at all.
