One Congressional Hispanic Caucus member told POLITICO that Obama won him over by essentially (saying) that the fate of his presidency hinged on this week’s health reform vote in the House. The member, who requested anonymity, likened Obama’s remarks to an earlier meeting with progressives when the president said a victory was necessary to keep him strong for the next three years of his term.

Another caucus member, Rep. Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.), said, “We went in there already knowing his presidency would be weakened if this thing went down, but the president clearly reinforced the impression the presidency would be damaged by a loss.”

White House officials said Obamas recent remarks aren’t intended to personalize the debate or rally undecided Democratic members with an egocentric, win one for Barry message.

Like most things coming out of this White House, bullshit.

Democrats are planning to introduce legislation later this spring that would permanently repeal annual Medicare cuts to doctors, but are warning lawmakers not to talk about it for fear that it will complicate their push to pass comprehensive health reform. The plans undercut the party’s message that reform lowers the deficit, according to a memo obtained by POLITICO.

Hmmm. I wonder who’s leaking this stuff…?

In seeking enough votes to overhaul the nation’s health care system, President Barack Obama is telling nervous Democratic lawmakers that their political fates are linked to the bill’s passage, discouraging the notion that they can save themselves by opposing it, House members say.

That should boost morale.

They also say the president’s not asking lawmakers to save his skin either, while the White House insists that no special favors in exchange for votes are being offered or accepted.

Of course not, and seeing how Obama is off the electoral hook for two-plus years, that must ring especially hollow.

How about a perspective from the ground….

“I was afraid of what we had already been getting in Massachusetts, and at that point in 2008, I was aware that it wasn’t working,” he said. Separately yesterday, Cahill accused Obama of “propping up” the Bay State’s health plan with federal aid in order to help push the Democrats’ plan through Congress.

So, whenever you hear a Democrat say how well things are going in Massachusetts with their mandatory health care system, don’t take the word of a clueless politician. The Commonwealth would be bankrupt if not for our federal tax dollars keeping the Bay State above water.

This is what protecting “gender identity and expression” really means.

Mass. Bill H1728 (now before the Legislature) would punish any opposition to such madness with fines and jail time. Even schools would be opened up to cross-dressing children, transgender restrooms and locker rooms, and sports teams. Employers would be subject to new non-discrimination regulations. (At the federal level, ENDA would force this on the country if passed.)

So, if you progressive women don’t mind, why should we?

And for those of you who thought the Scott Brown election meant The Bay State may have gotten her mind right, you don’t know the Massachusetts Legislature.

On Thursday, the Massachusetts Senate votes on a bill containing draconian language that would criminalize criticism of homosexuality published on Web sites and other media with fines of up to a thousand dollars and imprisonment.

Barack Obama’s election as President of the United States was portrayed as a new beginning for a country embattled by the financial crisis and war on terror.

But within some parts of America the disquiet has grown, as he tries to tackle the crises he inherited and push through his controversial healthcare reforms.

With his visit to Australia imminent, video journalist Aaron Lewis reports for Dateline on both sides of Obama’s problems, and meets some of those in previously staunch Democrat states who are finding it all a bitter pill to swallow.

Will his popularity recover when the US economy does, or could he be a one-term wonder?

ATHOL — Part-time resident and former Republican candidate for state representative Bob Parks was interviewed recently, while in town, by an Australian production company shooting a documentary on the downturn in President Barack Obama’s popularity and the “Scott Brown effect” on American politics.

The main portion of the interview, conducted by video journalist Aaron Lewis, was filmed at AOTV studios in Athol, with some outside footage being shot around town. The documentary is being produced as part of Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service’s “Dateline” program (not to be confused with the American NBC news program of the same name).

The show is to air this month in Australia, and Parks, whose primary residence is in Manassas, Va., will be sending a DVD copy of the program to AOTV for airing on the local public access channel.

While in town, Parks took time out to discuss all things political, including the current race to fill the seat for state representative for the 2nd Franklin County District (currently held by Democrat Christopher Donelan, of Orange, and who is not running for re-election), and Brown’s election to the U.S. Senate.

Parks said that, during his own campaign against Donelan, he was tempted to ask him if he planned to leave the state legislature after attaining pension eligibility, or if he would pledge to the people who put him in office that he would not seek election as sheriff of Franklin County.

Parks said a reliable source had told him that was Donelan’s intent, but he chose not to call him on it, because “I didn’t know if the question would rub voters the wrong way, and would be seen as a personal attack.”

In hindsight, Parks said he wished he had posed the question, but noted, “it’s one of those what-ifs.”

Parks, who comments on all things political and more on his Web site Black & Right (www.black-and-right.com), said he doesn’t see that the district has improved much since his move south, and noted that the upside of Donelan’s decision to not seek re-election is that the “district will get some new blood and, hopefully, new blood that isn’t self-serving.”

Parks said he fully expects that the person elected to Donelan’s seat “will be an independent thinker and one who doesn’t think waiting for Boston to help [the district] is the way to go.”

He added that whoever wins the race should take a page from his own political play book and personally approach business executives and invite them to the area to show them what is available as a means to boost economic development in the region.

“The North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce does what it can, but [there is a need to be] aggressive, and a state representative has the clout to open doors,” he said.

He added the focus should be on high-tech companies and others that attract young people and offer internships. Of the area’s younger generation, Parks said, “We need to give them more to aspire to than what is here. I would hope the new representative would get personal about economic development, and not leave it to state policy.”

Parks said one of the things that is going to work against such an effort if undertaken is the fact a program to create economic opportunity zones is being done away with by the Obama Administration and Beacon Hill. Such a program works to bring economic development to areas most in need. “Both administrations are not business-friendly,” he said.

Whether or not a Republican can win the district remains to be seen, but Parks feels it’s an uphill battle. “Personally, I don’t think Ronald Reagan could win here,” he said.

In support of his belief, he points to the fact Brown lost to Martha Coakley in the district, which includes the towns of Athol, Orange, Erving, Gill, Greenfield and Wendell. However, of those towns, Athol and Orange went to Brown, and Parks sees that as hopeful, but noted, “Voters in Athol and Orange see realities [the other towns] don’t. At some point, you have to stop voting against your own self interests.”

During his own campaign, Parks told supporters and others that if they wanted change they had to vote for it, but if they liked the status quo then they shouldn’t complain. He said he still hears complaints when he’s in the area.

While Parks appreciates what Brown was able to accomplish, he said he is “not a big fan of Brown.” In fact, when being interviewed for this article in mid-February, he even suggested Brown might be swayed to vote with Democrats on certain issues, an observation which has since proved itself true.

Parks said that the election of Brown and of Republican candidates in New Jersey and Virginia seems to have Democrats dumbfounded. “They seem to be totally mystified by the results,” he said.

He added that he takes issue with Democrats claiming that Bush winning the presidency with 51 percent of the vote equated to the country being strictly divided, while Obama taking 53 percent means their party has a mandate. “That’s sort of illustrative of the arrogance of Democrats,” he said.

Parks said he feels that Democrats are mostly out of touch with voters. To support his claim, he cites the fact poll results have shown voters largely against the proposed health care bill, yet “they don’t seem to listen and continue to ram down a bill nobody wants in [its current] form.”

Another example he cited was Coakley’s statement regarding former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, which was made during her campaign and accused him of being a Yankees fan. “You’d have to be on another planet not to know about the New York-Boston rivalry,” he said. “I think the remark was the final nail, and shows an elitism that puts people off.”

In contrast, Parks noted how Brown was out in front of the Garden in Boston talking with fans after a Bruins hockey game during his run for office.

Regarding his own political aspirations, Parks, who currently works as a video producer with the Media Research Center in Alexandria, Va., says if he were still a full-time resident in town he would consider running again for state representative.

A frequent guest on radio and TV programs, he said he has also been asked to run for political office in other states, including Florida, Oklahoma and Texas. To date, he has declined to do so.

Although he is unable to run for the 2nd Franklin County seat, and he lives over 400 miles away, his concern for the district remains solid and genuine. “I would do anything I could to help with economic development in the district, if I were asked,” he said. “I know people in Washington, but I don’t want to step on any toes.”

Flashback: To know what we’re dealing with here, a 2008 exchange she had in the Detroit City Council while she was, at the time, President Pro Tem.

Now, jump forward to March 10, 2010…

Former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers was sentenced to 37 months in prison today, but not before controversy and confusion erupted when she announced she wanted to withdraw her guilty plea to bribery.

In a loud and lengthy tirade that targeted federal prosecutors and the news media, Conyers said the court was trying to make an example of her and sentence her for crimes she did not commit.

“I’m not going to be made the scapegoat for other people,” Conyers told U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn. “I’m sorry that the newspapers have put pressure on you to make an example of me.”

“I’m just not going to jail for something I didn’t do.”

I think you are.

Pardon my glee when watching someone of prominence, riding on someone else’s coattail, assumes that others must knee in reverence, and displays undo arrogance.

After all of Hollywood’s Iraq movies have flopped (even the Oscar-garlanded “The Hurt Locker” earned only $15 million at the box office), one studio thinks it has the following secret to success: The previous films didn’t insult the United States enough. “Green Zone,” opening Friday, is a $100 million slime job that conjures up a fantastically distorted leftist version of the war and wraps it around a frantic but preposterous action picture.

We’re supposed to cheer for include Sunni officers who shoot down helicopters carrying American soldiers sent to assassinate them.

It must be nice to create products deemed important, that continue to flop, suffer few public repercussions, and still get paid.

Don’t try this at home.

Young Republicans are ready to rock the vote
In another worrisome sign for Democrats, a greater number of young Republicans are prepared to go to the polls in the 2010 election, according to a new survey.

The enthusiasm of young Democratic voters is waning, according to the poll from the Harvard Institute of Politics.

And it could spell trouble for the party.

When Rather got to “articulate”, I knew we had trouble brewing.

… this is what’s been used against him, but he couldn’t sell watermelons if it, you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic.

It’s also clear that Chris Matthews knew this would end bloody when he attempted to cut Rather off and stave off any further damage. I initially thought Matthews’ failure to post the segment (including what could be considered a racial slur against the President of the United States) an oversight, until I remembered that Chris Matthews forgot Barack Obama was black.

Even though the majority of Americans don’t want socialized medicine, Democrats will ram or shove it up a bodily oraface. Even though a new poll shows that “56 percent of those surveyed don’t trust the things scientists say about the environment”, John Kerry is going to make sure “climate legislation” that would limit carbon dioxide emissions is also rammed through…

If the science has been “maligned”, I would counter that the maligning happened after the revelations of emails where scientists talked freely about manipulating (and withholding Freedom of Information requests challenging) data. If the science was “misinterpreted”, it was intentionally done so by scientists who wanted that grant money flowing in, despite findings that proved their findings were wrong.

The Senate’s Committee on Environment and Public Works issued an urgent email late Monday claiming the DRUDGE REPORT is ‘responsible for the many viruses popping up throughout the Senate.’

The committee ordered hill staff: ‘Try to avoid’ the DRUDGE REPORT ‘for now’.

It may just be me, but I’ve never contracted a virus from the Drudge Report or any conservative site.

Maybe this is yet another example of Barbara Boxer liberals having an issue with people receiving opposing points of view via that annoying First Amendment.
