Liberal Movie Critics Decry Pro-Military, Pro-American ‘Act of Valor’
The critics describe the SEALs’ performances as “wooden”. I thought they were convincing. I certainly had less need to suspend my disbelief than when I saw Alec Baldwin as Jimmy Doolittle in Pearl Harbor.
The real reason — well, one of them — the critics panned the performances is that they themselves have never seen the inside of a uniform, don’t know anyone who has, and have not a scintilla (I love that word) of the warrior ethos in their makeup. They embrace rather John Lennon’s ideal of “nothing to live or die for”. That’s what makes sense to them, and that’s one reason they don’t understand the real world or the real people who inhabit it.
The guy that plays Senior Chief turned in such a good performance that I wasn’t sure whether he was an actor or a SEAL. Well, IMDB shows no actor with that role, so he must be Navy. When you see it (and I know you will if you haven’t already), pay particular attention to the bearded SEAL.

I didn’t watch the Oscars either. My husband banned me from watching them nearly 20 years ago. He always worried for the safety of our television set. An no, it wasn’t because of the political garbage. The Oscars have pretty much always been a stupid popularity contest that had nothing to do with talent. Not to mention that here you have THE awards ceremony of the entertainment industry and they have never figured out how to make them, well, entertaining. Besides that, they are sooooo predictable. If I was a betting person I could have made a perfect sweep of all the top awards (Picture, Actor, Actress, Director). No surprises there.
