    I’ve got nothing against Whitney Houston. Great talent, and no mistake. But would any shock jock get suspended for making disparaging and vulgar remarks about — oh, I don’t know — Jesus, f’rinstance? Or the Baal Shem Tov, or any other prominent Jewish icon? They wouldn’t, of course, make any such remarks about Mohammed; they value their lives too much for that.

      In death she regained her “media darling” status. Just the afternoon of her passing I saw the tabloids touting headlines that weren’t too far from what these guys said. Had these guys said the exact same thing the previous morning it would never have blipped on anyone’s radar. The only difference is the ensuing event. The facts didn’t change. Of course, they don’t need no steenkin’ facts.

    Romney – The pot-kettle comment is exactly what hit my mind first.

    Repubs/Gas $ – So the Repubs’ “pouncing on high gas prices” is their own fault?! Obama has no culpability in this rise?! REALLY?! Keystone XL, Coal plant closings, Gulf drilling rig permits denied, EPA over-reaching every freakin’ where… No Obama doesn’t have anything to do with that. And I’ve got a NYC bridge for sale, too.

    Texting fall – [chuckle] New York lawmakers are trying to outlaw texting and walking? Some academic is now going to “study” the effects of texting and walking? I want a federal grant to research the effects of walking and chewing gum. Or maybe one to research the effects of bitch-slapping rude cell phone talkers in restaurants. … hmm, that’d be a tough decision between the two of those.

    Dem Cronyism – this is news to someone?

    Springsteen – Shut up and play yer guitar.

    Motel owner, property seizure – I’ve wondered about this whole concept. It seemed too possible for corruption. This particular situation is certainly not right. It’s just a different method of “eminent domain” except the only cost to the gov’t is the prosecution charges, much cheaper than “fair market value”. I hope this guy can fight this all the way to the end. In my opinion, he should press them for court costs, defamation of business reputation, and whatever else he can get… ‘course that’d come out of our pockets, but at least this would be justifiable.

    Operation Cupcake – humor for the wife and my morning coffee time. Thanks Bob.

    Christians and law – Good quotes in the article: “The EHRC is so obsessed with equality that it has lost sight of freedom. It would prefer people not to do good, rather than to do good on their own terms.”; “the issue for Catholic adoption agencies was one of “respect for conscience”, he said. “They are two different issues.” ” The reference to a “totalitarian view” of public service is spot on.

    NYT/Heartland flap – The fact that Heartland says, and other parties have confirmed that the “smoking gun” document is fake, doesn’t even register on NYT or the “reporters”. It doesn’t fit with the message they’re pushing. Double standard is probably an understatement in this case.

    Pelosi/”undue burden” – Sorry Nan, they are already and “undue burden” on we, the tax payers, who have to make their payroll and benefits. My company stopped putting any matching funds in our 401k funds about 5 years ago, is that an “undue burden” on me? I understood that belts had to be tightened, why can’t the federal employees?!
