Orthodox Government Science’s God is Dead

Note: This is about government orthodoxy perverting science and not a medical recommendation. If you have hypertension, consult a doctor about whether it is salt sensitive and its remedy.

The Government Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have come for our bread, which contains evil salt. Is this scientific fact or another control mechanism? Does government control science and the resulting “knowledge.” The Government Ministry of Truth in Science functions to prove the government Nanny right. If you choose government grants for your science research, your grant proposals must be “scientifically correct.” The Nanny leader has decreed that all salt use must be reduced to save people from high blood pressure induced stroke or heart disease and simultaneously save money in our Ministry of Health’s Universal Healthcare.

And the success of this “scientific correctness” can be seen in the Cochran study wherein the scientists discovered, “We found no strong evidence that salt reduction reduced all-cause mortality in normotensives … or hypertensives,” and then “scientifically correctly” concluded, Our findings are consistent with the belief that salt reduction is beneficial in normotensive and hypertensive people.” Is science about beliefs?

When a scientist escapes the need for future funding we get, “Michael Alderman, an emeritus epidemiologist at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, believes the study adds to growing evidence that cutting salt does not help people who consume modest amounts of the stuff. Public policies aimed at forcing salt reductions are misguided and potentially dangerous, he says. Eating less salt may reduce blood pressure, which is beneficial for the heart, but it could also increase insulin resistance, triglyceride levels and sympathetic-nerve activity all risk factors for cardiovascular disease. ”

Other heresies have been reported in regions beyond the control of the US Nanny. Is a gene, a defective gene or a missing gene found in some groups the cause of salt sensitive hypertension (high blood pressure)? Is the comparative question: should we ban peanuts because a few are allergic? Should we all reduce salt because a few are genetically predisposed? Might the action, or inaction, or lack of the gene be replicated by a drug for those so predisposed and keep our salt?

Thomas Böttger from the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim has looked closer at the gene SLC4A5. This gene encodes a protein that transports certain ions (salt compounds), thereby preventing an excessive concentration of salt” “The scientists in Bad Nauheimer managed to corner the gene when studying mutant mice in which the gene had been specifically inactivated. The so-called “knockout mice” suffered from hypertension. Although various compensatory mechanisms had been activated

The Nanny government orthodoxies are anathemas to real science or medical advancements. Or keep your slimy tentacle off my French bread, pass the salt and stop trying to think, it’s above your government pay grade.

Salt in bread? Are they kidding???  Do they actually know how much salt goes into making a loaf of bread?  A teaspoon. A fricken teaspoon!  A teaspoon, not in a slice but THE WHOLE DAMN LOAF.  This is so ridiculous that it boggles my mind.

  2. Chris says:

As far as government scientific research grants are concerned, the real issue is why have any at all.

    The reality is:

    1.  They are just another example of the government picking winners and losers.

    2.  Most members of Congress, any Administration and their staffs have such a limited educational and work experience in any area of science that it is laughable.  Most only have education background in one “science” area, political science.  The few that do have some understanding simply steamroll the rest with their limited knowledge and a few buzz words.  The rest are just deer in the headlights.

    3.  Congress spreads billions around in the colleges and universities and thereby gains their support.  Of course, it is not just pure science but all sorts of social science studies that become the basis for new legislation.  Students, especially grad students that get taxpayer funded jobs while they study, find out that they can ride the gravy train forever and never really have to get a real job with a for-profit (evil) company.

    4.  Many taxpayers that buy into the nanny state BS get all misty eyed when they hear their leaders talk about curing some disease that afflicts a loved one, especially the one in the mirror.

The entire practice should cease.  Most scientific (including medical) breakthroughs are usually just a series of small discoveries that eventually lead to a new idea and have little relation to taxpayer support.

  3. Igor says:

Salt is absolutely necessary for the heart to beat properly, too little and you have problems.  Normal salt intake is excreted when  it goes over certain levels, as the article stated obliquely.  Lots of things contribute to hypertension, not just salt.  Lack of activity is a biggie.

where in the Constitution does it say the Gubmint is responsible for healthcare, anyway?

  4. Tallyman says:

Big Brother and Big Sis love you.  They are smarter than you and will make decisions for you.   They know which scientific research to support and which is worthless.  They believe in preventative medicine and know that if you follow the their rules, you’ll prevent illness and not need healthcare services.  Here’s the revised French Bread recipe:

    1 cup warm water (110 degrees F.)
1 1/2 teaspoons salt  to save our healthcare costs
3 cups bread flour     all purpose flour, instead of that elitist high protein flour which is harder for our farmers to grow
3 teaspoons Instant Active Dry Yeast
Cornmeal (optional for dusting pan)     whatever you save, Big Brother can give to another
