With all the talk of putting partisan politics aside and doing what’s best for the country, the fact President Obama is calling for a Joint Session of Congress on the very night NBC/Politico is airing a scheduled Republican Presidential Debate at the Reagan Library (and Rick Perry’s first appearance) is purely a coincidence, right?

It is coincidental. There are a lot of factors that go into scheduling a joint session of Congress for a speech. You can never find a perfect time. There are many channels to watch the president and to watch the debate.
— Jay Carney, White House press secretary
Not to give anyone the impression Carney and the president didn’t take into account the many “ordinary people” who may have made plans specific to this date weeks ago…
Carney gave NBC his permission to reschedule the Republican debate so it doesn’t conflict with the president’s speech, saying “if the network so chose and the candidates so chose” to reschedule, “that would be completely fine with us.”
Boehner Fires Back at Obama Over Scheduling of Jobs Speech
I’d say let this president have his moment if logistically possible and let the evening’s ratings do the talking. Most of us already know what Obama’s going to say (again) and we’re kind of sure what kind of bullshit questions Republican candidates will get from anyone associated with NBC or Politico.
I’ll bet on a rerun.

Kindda stupid on the Prez’s part. What if his little stunt fails and the Republican debate gets higher ratings than he does? How is that going to look?
But then again, I can see why he is giving the speech on a Friday night after the Market has closed–that way it can’t crash as soon as he opens his mouth. It will have to wait until the next Monday.
Whoops, I was looking at October–9/7 is a Wednesday.
No matter.
The whole thing is designed to give them a chance to scream raaaaaaacist once again, that’s all.
Boehner called his bluff. But,he should have told him to send the script from the teleprompter over so Congressmen could read it for a good laugh before falling asleep.
Obama is “acting stupidly”.
It’s the norm for him, n.n.
Puerile and classless. Sorry attributes for a President of the United States of America.
I think this turned ou to be a lose lose for Obama,he comes off as thinking he can do what he wants, hell them to change their debate I am more imporant, does not go off to well for sane people. Then he backs to Boehner where he loses again.
Bu most people I know that are sane realise that his speech will be worthless than the paper it was writen on.
EVERYthing the Obamanation does is calculated to do the maximum damage to the ‘Pubs, and elevate him in the eyes of the Great Unwashed Public.
It’s unraveling before his eyes, the scales are falling off of the GUP, and the Dumbocrats are going to go into full-blown Panic Mode real soon now. This next year is going to be interesting, indeed!
ecotim, lots of non-sane people out there…
