Actually, the bookstore manager said that the store did indeed carry similarly themed Bush "Embarrassmints" during Bush's time in office and there was never a problem.

Exactly! The Obama Disappointmints are created and sold by the same company (see above link, click on "Philosophy" tab) that created the Bush Embarrassmints.
The same company also makes Obama "Yes We Candy". These were also sold at the UT bookstore. Well, I should say, they ARE sold there. Those were not pulled.
