Annihilating Democracy with the Tea Party
We should be more critical of irresponsible politicians who opened us up to criticism from the likes of Germany
From the lead of the article: “Democracy depends on compromise and the American government depends on all branches working together. The Tea Party movement shuns both, preferring instead to drive the state into bankruptcy. On principle.”
Actually, the assertion that “democracy depends on compromise” is misleading-unto-falsehood. A workable and lasting democracy – and the United States of America was emphatically *not* set up as a democracy – depends upon the citizens and their rulers doing always (or almost always) the right thing, and putting the good of the polity ahead of their own personal interest.
To put it another way, a workable and lasting democracy depends upon human beings consistently behaving as though they were angels. How likely is that?
[continued]
Again, the assertion that “the American government depends on all branches working together” is blatantly false. The Constitution of the United States of America was intentionally designed to set the branches of the federal government as odds one with the others … and at odds with the States, to which most governmental authority is reserved.
A government in which “all branches [are] working together” is a government either by angels or by demons. Since human beings emphatically are not angels, such a government by humans must inevitably become demonic. Thus, our Founders set up a system to limit the scope of government by setting interest against interest.
Again, the assertion that “The Tea Party movement shuns both, preferring instead to drive the state into bankruptcy. On principle” is false. The state is *already* bankrupt; the question is, will we admit it *now*, when we might still have some hope of a degree of control over the situation, or, will we continue to deny it, until reality blows up in our faces?
Ilion, this is excellent. Thanks!
You're welcome.

Trump: I May Run for President if Economy Stays Bad
Fool me once…
Myself, I suspect that Trump has been acting as a "beard" for Obama. That whole "show us the birth certificate" stunt of his? I thought from the start that it was a stunt made in coordination with Team Obamanation.
"…Trump has been acting as a "beard" for Obama…" LOL!

Or, afraid of having to explain the halt of America's decline, and her subsequent return to a "freer market capitalism"; to the people living under their thumbs?

With over 10% of our economy in the last 2 years derived from the accumulation of debt. With nearly 50% of the population receiving welfare (i.e., non-contributory entitlements). With a public debt and near-term liabilities matching our GDP. With a rate of increase exceeding our GDP growth. This editorial would qualify as parody.
Humpf… I thought it WAS parody. You mean, they were serious?!?
What was I thinking??
Compromise is a fool’s combination of emotion and half wit intelligence. What the fool doesn’t realize is that the unscrupulous ideologue will just double his demands so you compromise with half. Slavery wasn’t ended with compromise. The innocent don’t get half the jail sentence that was asked for. If the pervert comes to your door and demands both your daughters, you don’t give him one. Compromise is feel-good emoting. If you give Obama half of what he wants, he just doubles his demands.
