Bonehead Of The Day

At least I didn’t call her a flake.

Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo’s own John Wayne. The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo’s John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.

John Wayne, the movie legend, is in fact from Iowa and the John Wayne birthplace is a celebrated landmark — only it’s in Winterset, which is a nearly three hour drive away from Waterloo.

As a writer, I was told to write only about that which I know. Politicians too often talk with conviction about topics they know little about and some habits appear to die hard.

That is why you always, I repeat, always, have your facts correct before stepping up to the podium.

Not a positive moment and yet not a particularly negative one either. Hopefully, she will learn the lesson you have identified, Bob. If you don't know, or are not certain, then pass on the topic or, as the circumstance may provide, ask questions.

I suggest to conservatives, Republicans, and non-Democrats, you need to stop handing this stuff to the dominant liberal establishment mass media on a silver platter. Let them earn it by uncovering it themselves. You are carrying the Democrats' water. By showing just how smart you are to know this, you show how naive you are, too. Do as Reagan said and don't speak ill of those in your own Party.

    • Neecie says:

No one is handing anything to the Democrats or MSM. She said it in public–it is already out there.

What? Do we want to act like the libs and try to cover it up or make excuses? Remember we are conservatives–we don't believe people are gods who can't make mistakes. We don't hero worship. So, she made a goof. If she's smart she will own up to this and make it into a joke, beat everyone to the punch.

In any case, I'm not real impressed with her staff right now. That was an amateur mistake.

    • Igor says:

Correcting someone is not speaking ill, Sean. It's correction. Y'know, setting things straight?

      Don't worry about it, mon.

  4. BRFan says:

I wonder why so many politicians, both left and right, make such simple mistakes. She must be paying for top flight talent to research for her and write her speeches and for such a simple gaffe to be made is mindblowing.

  5. koala says:

I bet she knows how many states are in the US.

  6. The Machine says:

The answer to BRFan's question is easy:

    Politicians are stupid.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

One patty shy of a Big Mac.

    etc.

  7. Igor says:

To err is human, to forgive is not Democratic…

I'll take HER knowledge over Odumbo's ANY day.
