The Pussification Of America

The same Chris Jericho who hurled people through folding tables is now tangoing to Journey on DWTS. The pussification has taken hold.

The next time I hear Steeler receiver Hines Ward “dancing down the sideline”, this is the horrifying visual that will come to mind.

The concussion the Pats gave Ward last year rendered him useless for the rest of the season. The Steelers had no choice but to let him go. Thus, leaving him only one option. That is to dance with the stars…

  2. Nicolas says:

I think the show is funny as hell with various celebs, but more importantly I love me the womens on the show! HOT! :P

  3. n.n says:

I disagree, Bob. Pussification should be defined by submission. The men who dance cannot be automatically classified as submissive. Then there is the implication towards women… There is a time and place for almost everything, including, but not limited to, dancing.

  4. The Machine says:

    n.n has it right.

Takes a real man to lead a woman in proper dance.

  5. Igor says:

Dancers are agile, strong, fast, co-ordinated. Something I’m not. They can kick your lungs out if they were standing beside you.

Sure., lotsa gays, but it goes with the territory, I guess…

I have to disagree, Bob. Men have been dancing with women for centuries. Make that millennia. It’s a traditional way of being a proper man and affirming the male/female distinction and symbiosis. The male moves in structured dance are different from the female moves. It’s also a symbol (sometimes rather overt) of you-know-what.

And as Igor points out, being a good dancer — or a good gymnast — is physically challenging, as is often discovered by men who were star athletes and find dancing harder than they expected.

If men start dancing “together” the way women sometimes dance “together” when there aren’t enough willing men around, then we can start worrying.

I was just mocking the image both of these men made of themselves prior to DWTS: Chris Jericho, macho wrestler, and Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steeler ironman. For years, these guys shook sweat and testosterone through our televisions into our living rooms, and in a new quest for attention, they are now ballroom dancing.

I’m not dissing the dancing art, just the quest for publicity.
