Any engineer worth his salt knows that batteries (lead-acid in particular) don’t have the oomph when they are cold. However, a little clever engineering can overcome this. Shoot, when I was in North Dakots, we were instructed to turn our headlights on for about 30 seconds before starting the car up – the internal resistance of the batteries will warm it up slightly and give more Cold Cranking Amps. Counter-intuitive until you know what’s going on in the batteries…
Our Tango has no such problems (they are minimized). We use synthetic in the gearboxes for the drive, and an electric motor actually works better when it is cold… unless the lubrication of the Armature is a little viscous at low low temperatures. I could go on for hours, but won’t. Everything has its drawbacks, even our bodies.
