As a very young girl, I fell in love with Tony through a close-up of him in the little-known “Purple Mask.” Bon voyage, Tony.

Tony Curtis was great. I loved him in Houdini. I can’t imagine anyone else in that role. And his then-real life wife, Janet Leigh, portraying his on screen wife was fabulous. The chemistry between them in that movie was obvious and worked very well. I also loved him as a young outlaw (Kit Dalton) of James Gang notoriety in Kansas Raiders, starring Audie Murphy. Another great one was The Great Race with Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk and Natalie Wood, with Curtis playing the suave, debonair handsome, young racer. Lemmon & Falk were wonderful as the arch villains trying to cheat every way possible, and Natalie Wood was stunningly gorgeous; very funny movie. I often wondered whether Wood & Curtis were romantically connected off screen. Prayers and condolences to his family. R.I.P. Tony Curtis.

“Houdini” was also my favorite Tony Curtis movie.

I mostly remember him from Spartacus, Houdini and Taras Bulba. He had his share of fluff films.

I mostly respect him for volunteering to join the navy during World War II. He was a minor, I think 16, and he forged his parents’ signatures to enlist. He was at Tokyo Bay for the signing of Japan’s Surrender. He had positive memories about his time in the service.

It’s good to see that he and his daughter Jamie Lee Curtis reconciled.
