Bonehead Of The Day

A clear example of why there is this RINO purge going on from the Republican Party. You just can’t believe a word a moderate says.

They’re all over my house, doing things whenever I call for repairs, and I’m sure you’ve seen them at your house. We’ve got to find a way to bring these people out of the darkness and give them some kind of status.
Colin Powell on illegal aliens, Meet The Press, 9/19/10

But a little more than 24 hours later…

I don’t hire illegal immigrants. On Meet the Press yesterday, I referred to illegal immigrants working around my house. I was referring to the many service contractors who work in my neighborhood, using mostly immigrant workers, who do good work. Some may well be ‘illegal.’ There are 11 million illegal immigrants in this country and most are working somewhere in our economy.
Colin Powell, statement, 9/20/10

If General Powell didn’t know the workers “all over” his house were illegal, his original statement implying they were would be racial profiling. If General Powell did know they were illegal, he was clearly breaking the law. If General Powell expects us to believe his clarification, he IS a bonehead.

And Mr. Powell, you did not refer to “illegal immigrants working around” your house on Meet The Press. You stated that they are “all over” your house.

    Which is it then?

Colin Powell revealed his true colors a while back. Although this latest from him should come as no surprise it is nonetheless disappointing. I lost my respect for Colin Powell long before this.

  3. DasBus says:

I used to have a lot of respect for Powell. Not anymore. So very disappointing.

If only there were jobs for Americans. If only noncontributory entitlements were taken as a last resort and not first. I wonder if we can reconcile these two issues.

Maybe we should focus on empowering Americans and then redistribute wealth to the rest of the world. Perhaps we could encourage acts of voluntary exploitation (i.e., charitable giving and works) in order to help individuals who are disadvantaged or experience a momentary lapse in their stability.

I attended a Powell speech a few years ago, and not one “uh”, “er” or “you know” punctuated his talk, and it was excellent, but like DasBus, he no longer has my respect.

  6. SFJ says:

Are there no unemployed LEGAL folks in the DC Metro area that could do this work? Or is it that the illegal ones are so much cheaper?

“They’re all over my house, doing things…”

Being from the south, my first thought was “what, ants … termites … what?!”

Oh… people… those people, in the dark… can we give ‘em a flashlight and maybe a map with a big red arrow pointing south?! … am I being insensitive… dang.

  8. spoilsport says:

powell (lowercase letter intended) the RINO is a racist. Is he profiling because the people are brown and speak spanish? “What a maroon” as Bugs Bunny would say.

  9. Nicolas says:

he’s BEEN a bonehead since he stupidly endorsed Obama in 2008. haven’t taken him seriously since…

“he’s BEEN a bonehead since he stupidly endorsed Obama in 2008. haven’t taken him seriously since…”

EXACTLY right! I had long made up my mind I could not vote for MR. Obama. When General Powell endorsed him, I knew I could not take him seriously ANYMORE. What a letdown!

And to think…I might have considered VOTING for him, at one time…

  11. thinking says:

If he’s assuming those “darker-than-white skinned” workers all over his house are illegals, he’s profiling. Bigot or racist?

AND…they already do have a status. It’s called “illegal alien”. (See, that whole “illegal” part is what keeps them in the dark, Mr. Powell.)
