The left, in particular black activists, is bitching about Glenn Beck’s chosen date and location of his “Restoring Honor” rally today in Washington, D.C. “When you start saying you’re going to reclaim the civil rights movement that’s not even coded, that’s a blatant attempt the highjack a movement that changed America,” says Al Sharpton.
Bob Parks of the Media Research Center, argued that both King and the Lincoln Memorial are icons that belong to all Americans: “Since Dr. King never declared ownership of black people, like liberals [do] today, especially those who denigrate anyone of color who doesn’t think and vote the way they so authorize, I don’t believe he’d be a narcissist and declare that location and date his and his alone.”
Sharpton added, “I’m going to let him have the stage to himself and people will judge for themselves whether that has anything to do with civil rights.”
Al, thanks for letting Beck have the stage to himself. I’m sure he’s grateful. But you need to stop making this all about you because I don’t believe Glenn Beck ever said that’s what Restoring Honor was all about.
The civil rights process belongs to the millions who worked, fought, and died to promote the American Dream. King was a prominent member of that process and his contribution should be remembered as serving the interests of all people, black, white, brown, etc. The ideology of progressive involuntary exploitation, and progressive totalitarianism, denigrates the dignity of the oppressed and the oppressors.
This is not a matter of sensitivity, nor respect; other than denying millions of people their rightful place in history.
Sharpton needs to review the meaning of civil rights, before he further taints King’s legacy.
Like most if not all of the the leftoids, Sharpton has absolutely no idea what the word, “honor” truly means.
Amazing that [Not so] Sharpton has any credibility or followers. The only explanation is that the leftist media enables him to spew his vitriol and lies.
