CBS paid Katie Couric big bucks to anchor their Evening News and their ratings are close to bottoming out. But as it turns out, ratings really aren’t a big deal.
Television news divisions may be thinking twice about ambitious travel plans.
That was the ominous message delivered to the “CBS Evening News” last week. The Nielsen Co. said Katie Couric’s broadcast reached just under 5 million viewers, a low point for evening newscasts for at least two decades and probably much longer. The week’s centerpiece was a two-day trip to Afghanistan….
“We think the story was worth it,” executive producer Rick Kaplan said. “I make no apologies for it at all. We didn’t expect any huge ratings surplus. What was important to us was that we do it and we do it well.”
If CBS didn’t expect any huge ratings surplus, then why did they send Couric and a crew and pay for satellite time, and since when is a story considered done well when few people watched it?
And don’t weep for Katie Couric.

would much rather see Katie on “dancing with the stars” as she wouldn’t have to talk while dancing, as I still contend she’s got the body and looks of a cougar, but her ability to create intelligent discussion has declined over the years

Well, Katie expressed her opinion about the Ground Zero Mosque using the worst metaphor possible:
There is a debate to be had about the sensitivity of building this center so close to Ground Zero.
But we can not let fear and rage tear down the towers of our core American values.

That must be a mistake. She can’t possibly be so incompetent. Or is she mocking Americans? Either way, she is an exceedingly poor representative of the left-wing in America.
Does she realize how many independents, and even liberals, have recognized that respect cannot be offered unilaterally? While every aspect of the left-wing agenda has its supporters, there are relatively few people who support it in whole.

eNeecie, I never doubted you. They tend to do better when they are running the show. It is actually a good sign when they continue to fumble. Let them reveal their true nature and allow people to judge them for what they are, and what they represent. That seems fair to me.
