People look at me like I’ve got an extra head when I say that if we want to change the future (like in race relations) then we have to start living that future, rather than spending all this time angsting over the past, which is unchangeable. If we spend all of our time looking backward, we’ll never move forward.
As many before me have pointed out, it has always blown my mind that they picked the shortest month in the year Black History Month and they don’t have a good excuse for doing so. January would have made more sense.
@IT Nerd–you better watch it, your age is showing.
As a kid I wondered why we have Black History Month or Miss Black America when the Miss America Pageant is open to all – including blacks – just to name a few.
And, as I stated in a post from a few days ago, Morgan Freeman was my favorite character on “The Electric Company.”
that also reminds me of a statement Bob said maybe last year, that really speaks to our combined culture as 1 COUNTRY that shouldn’t be divided – “I am an American. Period.”
I agree with you IT. When I was young and idealistic (and attended public school) I thought it was great to have a month for black history. Now I beleive we are all just Americans. If you put something before it, you are not a true AMERICAN!
He’s a human with black skin, who happens to have the name Morgan Freeman.
He’s a human with Jewish skin(?), who happens to have the name Mike Wallace.
I love this clip! Who would have guessed that fomenting division promotes prejudice. Apparently, the people who profit from this contrived economy.
Do they really think individuals are interchangeable within their designated class? Isn’t that the design and purpose of suggesting a diversity by class? However, unlike our station in life, incidental features are persistent and immutable.
KILLER clip, bob! one would hope Morgan Freeman is a Republican?
I think the debate on race would stop, if the GOP collectively grew a pair, and stood on their history of destroying racial barriers and mentioning all these great republicans we know – Frederick Douglas, Booker T. Washington, MLK, etc.
suffice to say I’m DAMN TIRED OF BEING CALLED “RACIST” FOR BEING A REPUBLICAN!
Mauser, it was stated over 2,500 years ago.
“The Kingdom of God is NOW.”
Not the past, not the future.
Now.
Live in the Now and you don’t have to worry about the past nor the future.

I remember this interview. I was really impressed with Freeman.

Such a simple thing, I’ve asked for it, cried for it, even begged for it since the day I was born but alas to no avail.
One of my faves!
Awesome video.
Also don’t you just love Mike Wallace’s reaction to that statement? Like Morgan punched him in the face.
spoilsport –

I just want to watch “Lean on Me” again. God bless Morgan Freeman.
I wish more people had the attitude of Morgan Freeman.
