Flashback Of The Day

Back in January of ’08, I distinctly remember us all being told how much more healthy the vittles on The Hill would be…

That was then, this is now….

Congress’ Food Tab: $604,000 for Bottled Water, $152 at Quiznos
Crave ribs? Bagels and coffee or doughnuts? Seafood, subs or Chinese? So does Congress!

House members spent part of their Members Representational Allowances on these items — and more — during the nine-month period between late 2009 and early 2010 covered by the Sunlight Foundation’s House Expenditure Reports Database. The info is highly enlightening, revealing, for instance, the popularity of Chantilly Donut’s sinkers; what it costs to feed hungry congressional pages; and how lucrative it can be to own a part of the cottage industry of keeping our duly elected representatives fed and well hydrated.

Ribs and doughnuts do not a healthy diet make, nor do I have anything personally against Quiznos. But this is yet another glaring example of your typical do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do liberal hypocrisy.

Bon appetite!

    Bob! You’re back!

    And badder’n ever!

    Igor

Hope you give ‘em a stomach ache.

  2. Bob says:

I guess. The video was uploaded January 25th, 2008.

  3. Igor says:

I knew it was an oldie but goodie, but I still love to see you on video.

    Some things are timeless.

I had a time trying to pronounce jicama the first time I saw it. I was told it’s pronounced with an “h” sound, such as hicama.

Yeah, it would be nice to have some of that stuff, I just can’t afford to eat like that every day. Maybe on special occasions.

  5. IT Nerd says:

Hey Bob, what’s the odds on your current boss allowing you to resume your videos? Sure do miss those.

  6. Nicolas says:

ah yes, good memories there with the videos, Bob.

    I tried Quiznos once…was not a fan. I prefer Subway myself :P

  7. Bob says:

    @IT Nerd
I could do them anytime. The only problem is they’re very time consuming to edit, and it would cost $50 per shoot in the MRC studio. I think I once floated the idea of sponsors but got no takers.

  8. Nicolas says:

ditto what IT Nerd said. Would be cool if the MRC could help you continue B&R as it was, exactly why I loved the recent piece

  9. Nicolas says:

    nuts…late response

Bob, is there any OTHER way you might continue B&R?

  10. crowhorse says:

I agree. I enjoy the videos. If I could afford to send money to continue them, I would.

None of those foods were healthier than what they replaced, just more expensive. Bread has just as many carbs regardless whether it is baked as a bun or a baguette. The exotic versions of vegetables are no more beneficial than their mundane counterparts. But to add insult to injury, our “Lords” don’t even want their kingly food.

So how much “turkey escabeche” and curried lamb is thrown out each day while everyone pigs out on ribs and donuts?

  12. n.n says:

This is exactly why the recent Executive Order is needed. This nation is in dire need of behavior modification. Let’s start with the civil servants, since they first suggested the solution.

Frittata – is an omelette, no?

    mmmm
