Update: Gulf Rig Conspiracy Theory

The Mark Levin Show, 4/30/10

My instincts initially told me this oil rig/spill thing just didn’t smell right and it’s nice to know that some who have knowledge in this field feel the same way as well.

Can you say environmental Reichstag fire?

  2. n.n says:

With over $10 trillion invested in AGW/AGCC, including public and private sector interests, maybe operating oil platforms in a defiant America is no longer in BP’s best interest. It also doesn’t conform well with the EPA’s regulation of greenhouse gases, especially CO2.

Hopefully, we will learn the truth. I hate plausible conspiracy theories.

I would not be shocked to learn that this was an act of eco-terrorism.

  8. Igor says:

I *would* be surprised if this turns out to be some eco-freak that managed to sneak aboard and do some damage. The control systems are complex, you have to have an intimate knowledge of what’s where and what to sabotage, and it’s really not a simple task. All the blowout gear is on the sea bottom at the well head, and there’s safety after safety after triple-redundant safety that shuts everything down if the control runs are damaged or ripped out – remember, the platform was a floating one, not anchored to the bottom.

Having said that, it’s entirely possible to sneak up on a platform with a sub…

As a petroleum engineer myself I would be surprised if this disaster was not the result of a catastrophic equipment failure or simply human error. Deep water drilling is incredibly complex and highly regulated but shit does happen. The caller is correct in doubting the administrations representatives competence in dealing with the situation and the media’s coverage of it. It seems both are giving BP all of the responsibility and none of the authority to deal with it.
