Quote Of The Day

I’m sure I’ll further enhance my Uncle Tom status by stating I don’t watch Black Entertainment Television, have no use for BET, and wouldn’t recommend BET to anyone, because if anything, it best exemplifies almost all negative black stereotypes.

I’m not alone.

Don’t even get me started. I don’t watch it. I suggest to my kids that they don’t watch it…  I’m ashamed of it, if you want to know the truth.

I just really wish — and not just BET but a lot of television programming — that they would stop lowering the bar so far just so they can get eyeballs to the screen. I know they think that’s what’s going to keep programming on the air; that’s what’s going to sell advertising. But there has got to be some responsibility.
Sheila Johnson, co-founder and former owner, BET

Light-skinned bitches and hos, ignorant-sounding young black men, videos of samples ‘sung’ by the atonal, rapped by those who can’t spell ‘poem’, and a kiss ass liberal political stench. That’s black entertainment!

Back in the day—WHUR—Howard University Radio: “The Quiet Storm”. Every night, classy and smooth. I’m 50 now but still remember how much I enjoyed that program. Far cry from what BET offers.

good to know she finally feels that way. at the same time though, I wonder if there were any good intentions in creating BET. To me, it felt divisive in it’s creation
