A couple of days ago on MSNBC, David Shuster called me a nigger.
Later, Chris Matthews called me a sellout.
Keith Olbermann called me a Little Black Sambo.
CNN’s Rick Sanchez called me a biscuit-and-chicken eatin’ white wannabe.
Now, if I had publicly made these claims, these media celebs would be demanding I produce video clips of these incendiary statements, and if I couldn’t, they’d justifiably be on the phone with their lawyers.
On March 20th during the Tea Party protests, members of the Congressional Black Caucus chose (and I use that word tactically) to walk through the throng to go vote for the Health Care Reform bill. Surely, if the Tea Party were one generation removed from the Klan (which incidentally was a Democrat Party creation), they might’ve either taken a different route or would’ve had an armed escort greater than less than a handful of Capitol Hill cops.
I’m personally amazed that the objective mainstream media has failed to produce ONE video or audio clip (out of the many shot by citizens) that backs up the claim of Congressman John Lewis who says he was called a nigger by a Tea Party bomb thrower. Obviously it’s a given the media will accept the word of a God-like politician. Just ask John Edwards how that works. Making oneself a victim is easier for some than others.
The media is in perfect sync, running with this template that the Tea Party is this violent and racist horde.
Funny how my son and I went to the two large protests in Washington, D.C. and the only names I was called was my own as I ran into many people who knew me and assaulted me with hugs and poses for pictures. Other blacks and minorities in attendance (who curiously seemed to run and hide from mainstream media cameras) didn’t seem at all concerned for their safety.
In fact, in all the Tea Parties held nationwide, how many arrests were made for disorderly conduct or property damage? Knowing the crack media as we do, if such disturbances occurred, we’d see those images right along with the audible racial slurs hurled at CBC members at an O.J.-like pace. But alas, either the media has done a very sloppy job at reporting, or… those events never happened.
With that, I would never claim media pundits and anchors used racial slurs (at least in public) without irrefutable proof.
However, this should not be a one-way street.
Until the media can produce evidence that can link hateful race comments to an entire group of non-violent, clean-up-after-themselves, civic-minded citizens, any other claims are slanderous and, to tell you the truth, there are times I wished I were that lawyer.

Go get one of those little palm-sized Ativa video cameras, people, and carry it with you wherever you go. Let’s catch the bastards in the act!

This is a superb piece, Bob.
How I wish I could see the smug faces of Matthews, Shuster, Olbermann, et al, when they try to defend themselves against these charges, as you said. Not that it would change what they do, but at least the could no longer claim that they have no idea what it feels like to be smeared so unfairly with such an incendiary allegation.
Well done, sir.
OldnyFirefighter Says:
I worked with a black man who asked me during the 2000 election, who I was going to vote for and why. He was leaning towards voting R, but said that in his neighborhood (in Phila) everyone was voting for Gore. He said, his wife told him she watched as a couple of Democrats went up and down the block offering cigarettes and money vouchers to people, while handing out voter registrations. She said that she was going to vote D because the D’s help black people and the R’s are against them. He said he didn’t agree and was confused by the message that was being sent in his area of the city. He wanted to be informed, not bribed!
If OldnyFirefighter Says is correct, and what I know to be fact is too, this is a travesty!
Why is it that R’s get a bad reputation, for NOT doing the underhanded things that D’s do???????
The first job I got in my profession after college was for a mid-sized city in Indiana. Just before I was hired, the GOP had finally (after forever) won the mayor’s office, and the new GOP mayor put an end to and old Dem practice … to get hired by the city, one had to have the recommendation of a Dem ward leader.
KRS1,
Democrats have been lying to voters, both black & white for years. I can remember in my younger years when I worked for the local Board of Elections, we had some Senior Citizens come to vote from a County Nursing Home that told me that they had to vote Democrat or they would be kicked out of the Nursing Home. I asked why & one 90yr old lady told me if the Republicans won we would be thrown out. I told her it was not true & she whispered to me, “sonny, see that man over there”? I said yes & she said that is what he told us, besides we get $10 for voting for the Democrat. The man she pointed to was a Democratic Committeeman. Later when the polls closed I confronted him & he said so what, I’ll say it never happened. Later that week I went to the Nursing home & asked some others about it & they confirmed that is what he told them. I asked if they would tell that to a Judge & all declined, saying they were afraid of what might happen if they testified. At that time I was enrolled as a Democrat. I changed my Party Affiliation to Independent ASAP. This is an absolute fact, as I have nothing to gain by stating it as fact. Maybe the Republicans do it as well, but I have no knowledge of that being fact.
Bob, I just positively love you my friend!
But I am white, as you know. You won’t hold that against me, will you? (being facetious here.)
People who have a brain look at others’ wonderful (OR horrible) qualities and respond accordingly. Without seeing differences in our skin tones we are free to love each other, share, and have wonderful lives with our friends and family.
People who are in racist, self-pity, insecure, or ‘attitudinal’ modes see skin color first and sadly, miss the most that life offers. In fact, these are those who desire to hold power over others and are most likely eternally unhappy and miserable.
Bob, thank YOU for all that you do. I don’t know anyone of whom I am more honored to call my friend!!
KRS1,
Sorry, but your confusion is not my fault and it’s unfortunate that you stereotype all blacks as having to be Democrats.
Maybe you should start here…
I’m confused.
Are you a black man?
If so, why would you even want to join sides with these people?
I noticed that the real racists are on the left. They’re positively fixated on race. What losers.
amen, Bob. Also, you had my going there when you said you were called certain “names” by the media, but I somehow instantly “got it” that you were making fun of the slander being thrown around by guys like Al Sharpton or the strangely existent Democrat Black Caucus.
Think I’m starting to pick up on some of these things faster.
Also, I love your clever language there “Funny how my son and I went to the two large protests in Washington, D.C. and the only names I was called was my own as I ran into many people who knew me and assaulted me with hugs and poses for pictures.”. That was great. I was also thinking that’s impossible to continue to throw this blanket state from Chris Matthews of “they’re all monochromatic, meaning they’re all white – every single ONE of them..” because I’ve seen guys like Kevin Jackson at TEA Parties, preaching the good conservative word, and then let’s not forget Zo out there as well. “all white” TEA Party people? bullshit.
Knowing the crack media as we do
All right, I can’t help myself.
Harvard Professor Makes Inhalable Coffee, No Cup Required
Forget the crack, man, have some coffee.
This time around, the only weapons needed will be the voting booth.
Hear, hear! We still have a voice, and should continue using it now and at the voting booth.
Other blacks and minorities in attendance (who curiously seemed to run and hide from mainstream media cameras) didn’t seem at all concerned for their safety.
The liberal media do their best to avoid depicting anyone with darker than peach-colored skin on camera and on record. Something about “inconvenient truths” and diluting the message.
during the Tea Party protests, members of the Congressional Black Caucus chose (and I use that word tactically) to walk through the throng
You are right. There was also Pelosi carrying the very hammer that she used to pound her will onto others. If anything, they were baiting a reaction from people who opposed their agenda. Still, they were not concerned for their lives nor their welfare. It speaks well of the people attending the Tea Parties, white, black, brown, and every other shade.
Thank you, Bob….this really made me laugh. “It’s easy to take the word of a politician”.
“Other blacks and minorities in attendance (who curiously seemed to run and hide from mainstream media cameras”
~ that line caught my attention too. I suspect that they didn’t want to become a target in their own communities back home?
oops, there’s one of those violence inciting words again!
“Other blacks and minorities in attendance (who curiously seemed to run and hide from mainstream media cameras”
So sad. They should be front and center and speak up. Any idea why they run and hide?
“And then they shall rediscover what happens when Tojos’ “sleeping monster” awakens.”
Machine, Tojo never said that. That quote is usually attributed to Yamamoto and there’s no definitive source that shows he said it either. I get your general point though.
Bob,
When I was a swabbie on the USS Constellation many years ago, another sailor (black), who I knew by name, passed by me and I nodded or said ‘Hi’ or something. He stopped, came back to me and said, ‘What did you say?’ He thought I had called him ‘boy’ (as if!).
Some guys just have a chip on their shoulder. It’s like anything else; if you go lookin’ (or listenin’) for something, you’re bound to find it, even if it’s not there.
There were other black sailors on the Connie who were level-headed — and white ones who weren’t. I always appreciated a good shipmate, and didn’t really care what he looked like.
Heh-heh-heh, the “crack” media. About sums it up huh?
Very good points Bob, I am close to getting ballistic over the falsehoods being perpetrated by the media, and so called officials. We simply need to be persistent, as they certainly can be, and get our message across.
Meanwhile, Code Pink is off again, slamming Karl Rove and forcing him to interrupt and ultimately end his book signing with their violent attack on free speech; where’s the lame stream media?
The longer they continue to lie, the more Americans will see it for what it truly is.
And then they shall rediscover what happens when Tojos’ “sleeping monster” awakens.
