The rest of the world is beginning to see that not all Americans were suckered by hope and change, and the backlash has begun.
Barack Obama’s election as President of the United States was portrayed as a new beginning for a country embattled by the financial crisis and war on terror.
But within some parts of America the disquiet has grown, as he tries to tackle the crises he inherited and push through his controversial healthcare reforms.
With his visit to Australia imminent, video journalist Aaron Lewis reports for Dateline on both sides of Obama’s problems, and meets some of those in previously staunch Democrat states who are finding it all a bitter pill to swallow.
Will his popularity recover when the US economy does, or could he be a one-term wonder?

Thanks for the video, Bob. Too bad our ‘Dateline’ can’t be as up and up on reporting. Have been getting a lot of my political news lately from Europe guess now I’ll include more of Australia in my repertoire.
n.n….
I’m with you on the Indonesian visit. Read several articles on the protests then a day or so later heard he was postponing his trip, thought maybe he was being a coward!
just finishing watching the video here. good point about the TEA Party – definitely needs to STAY bottom-up. If that changes, you’re right, there WILL be problems. I don’t really see Palin as the leader of this movement, I see her as a hell of a candidate in 2012 however for POTUS
the local/state politics I mean
I guess that’s what Mary Anne is known for then I suppose
I do more national than local/state commentary.
also, like the woman they mentioned as “one of Massachusetts most influential political commentators”…why did they not call YOU that, Bob? YOU’RE the person who’s done TV work, radio spots, columns on a variety of websites and periodically mention that you’re FROM Mass…how is it that they didn’t call YOU “one of Massachusetts most influential political commentators”?
how does THAT work?
That was a side set at AOTV, also a convenient backdrop.
Very cool. was that at your home? saw a couch and American flag.
also, I’m having a hard time paying attention to more of Obama’s sound bytes periodically (like the “change has not come fast enough” which was damn frightening) just because he reminds me what a JOKE the 08 election was, and that it should’ve been a slam dunk for us, had a better effort been put out by McCain which would’ve toppled the fake majesty Axelrod helped create
still mad over that one and the inexperienced stand-in’s mishap after mishap, supposedly representing the US, COMPOUNDS my frustration, so I have a hard time paying attention to him. That’s why I read your site more than I can take in his sound bytes
While I was in Massachusetts last month.
killer line you delivered, Bob! when was that conducted?
Excellent, Bob! Thanks so much for sharing with us.
Bob, the international voice of reason. Brilliant!
There is no Tea Party. There are Tea Parties composed of like-minded, but not same-minded, people. That is the single best reason to keep it distributed, lest the infighting begins.
The progressives need to review what people with dignity really want. Most want the opportunity to work, live, and compete on the basis of their merits and efforts. Their attempts to perpetuate discrimination will only serve to divide us.
As for “Obamacare”, it’s not like he actually wrote it, or even knows its content. The “health care reform” bill was created by private progressive interests, and was ready to deploy upon his arrival to office.
The compromise was made a long time ago. The middle road, the moderate position, is aligned with conservative principles. The progressive path, by design, demands involuntary exploitation and denigration of individual dignity. Unless people accept their doctrine voluntarily, the progressive philosophy advocates for the enslavement of free people. Once that happens, nothing short of a revolution will unseat the “elite” minders of the community.
crises [Obama] inherited
Something he inherited and was complicit in creating.
Indonesian students protest Barack Obama’s visit
That’s the real reason why he has postponed his trip to Indonesia. It would be a PR nightmare, that not even his cronies in the press would be capable of spinning.
American liberals are notorious for respecting everything other than America. A few shoes thrown at their leader in predominantly Muslim Indonesia, should destroy any remaining delusions.
When I get my DVD, I’ll hook you up.
great work Bob!
Can other towns’ PEG access stations get a copy to broadcast?
Rock on Bob!
Hoowee, Bob made the Editor’s Choice for the opening soundbite!
I think, “petulant children” is what did it, Bob.
Excellent.
Downright Churchill-esque.
Nice work, Bob and thanks for posting this.
Yeah! Our very own Bob Parks becomes world-famous!
