We saw The Hurt Locker, I found it initially tense and I moved on to other things after around 30 of the 130 minutes. Then again, I know nothing about diffusing improvised explosives.
Some Iraq, Afghanistan war veterans criticize movie ‘Hurt Locker’ as inaccurate
Time magazine called “The Hurt Locker” “a near-perfect war film,” but Ryan Gallucci, an Iraq war veteran, had to turn the movie off three times, he says, “or else I would have thrown my remote through the television.”
‘The Hurt Locker’ sets off conflict
Some soldiers and veterans say the movie, a favorite for the best picture Oscar, portrays them as renegades and doesn’t depict combat accurately. But film critics have praised its authenticity.
We’ve got to appreciate the judgment of critics, because (after all) what do soldiers know…?

I really enjoyed the movie, but I didn’t think it was necessarily going for authenticity. It was just very well done and a great story (IMO, of course).
And yes, it portrays some of the characters as renegades, but it’s fiction!
“We saw The Hurt Locker, I found it initially tense and I moved on to other things after around 30 of the 130 minutes.”
really? you couldn’t watch it in it’s entirety? I watched the majority of it, as I walked in late after my mom had started the movie.
It was definitely tense, but it was killer. I can a Hollywood war movie never being 100% accurate and pissing off military vets and current serving for it’s INACCURACY.
I think when it boils down to it, it’s all Hollywood, never getting it’s subject matter 100% correct
a 1 season TV show tried to do the Iraq war, called “Over There“. I could appreciate it from what it was going for, with the sketchy maybe general knowledge of the military I have. Pretty good shot in my civilian opinion
wonder what my buddy stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas would think of it though?
“But film critics have praised its authenticity.” Ah yes, film critics are known for their extensive military backgrounds and knowledge.
It is allegedly the favorite for the best picture Oscar . . . unsurprisingly.
To the star’s credit, he had some concern with the accuracy. There is some hope…
Were it perfectly accurate, it would probably be decried as a Terrorist training tool.
If today’s soldiers think they’ve been dissed by this one, they can come over here and I’ll tell ‘em all about how we Vietnam vets felt after viewing Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, I could go on…
“Daddy, how many children did YOU kill?”
“You guys were all on acid…”
“Its a known fact that all of you were stoned.”
etc.
apparently now the movie’s producer’s are being sued…..
