CPAC 2010

DAY THREE

Another thing that’s most humbling is finding out that what you do reaches many people and they actually know who you are and what you’ve done.

DAY TWO

It’s been a year since I last hung out with Lieutenant Colonel Allen West (US Army, Retired), candidate for US Congress (Florida) and it was only for a few minutes in Manhattan. We’ll be talking soon in an upcoming interview.

I met US Senate Candidate (Washington) Dr. Sean Salazar and we have something in common.

It turns out both of us served on the USS Midway, Dr. Salazar with a squadron, myself ship’s crew, from 1985 to 1989. Sean stayed onboard for a few years after I left, but imagine two people serving on the same ship for four years during the late 80′s when they both meet in 2010 in Washington, D.C. for CPAC.

Small world.

Finally met up with conservative Hollywood writer/comedian Evan Sayet. Evan will be guest appearing on the next Notable Quotables show next week.

Cory and I met up with old friend, documentary filmmaker Nina May who produced Emancipation Revelation Revolution. I’ll be interviewing Nina as she’s got some very cool youth activities in progress.

The Paulies rubbed me the wrong way during the election ramp-up and apparently nothing’s changed at this year’s CPAC.

Many of them are over-boisterous, and some typically-rude booing speakers and calling for Ron to come out now. While Dr. Paul has some good ideas and  points, his initial welcoming of this followers to the “revolution” is way too cultish, not to mention those followers (whom I still were liberals who drunk his Kool Aid, and now believe they can instruct conservatives how to be “real” conservatives) who are just a tad to arrogant for my taste.

DAY ONE

CPAC, as it turns out, was a bit of a reunion: people I’ve known for years online and finally got to meet in person. But someone had to open the place, bright and early….

Sen. Jim DeMint opens CPAC.

I was honored to find out Andrew Breitbart had been reading B&R for years and we finally met on Facebook last fall and face-to-face today.

Rachel Maddow infiltrated the bastion of conservative hate and left unscathed. She did like the MRC “Stomp out the Liberal Media” doormats, although she thought it sexist one wasn’t made of her.

We’ll see on the next run.

Talk show host Jerry Doyle (Babylon 5′s “Michael Garibaldi”) and I used to talk on the phone and email frequently after I was greylisted in Los Angeles. Today was the first time we’d talked in over 10 years.

Bill O’Reilly’s better half Griff Jenkins dropped by the booth next door to interview Liz Cheney. I snapped a quick pic and he reached over, we shared introductions and shook hands. Nice guy.

Bill would’ve been pissed.

Yes, I said Liz Cheney.

The former vice president was in radio row.

I shot Florida’s US Senate candidate Marco Rubio’s speech this morning, Cory shot Liz Cheney’s speech this afternoon and I shot House Minority Leader John Boehner’s speech as well. They’ll all be posted soon, as well as some of the speakers over the next two days.

Please stand by.

It would be fantastic to see a pic of you with Glenn Beck.

  2. Bob says:

    That would be Saturday…

  3. Igor says:

Have fun, and enjoy your work. I’d *love* to be there as well, but I have no vacation time and no money… I’m being overtaxed now as it is! Pun intended.

  4. Nicolas says:

ya I’d love to hear Glenn Beck’s reaction to some of the things you’ve been talking about REGARDING him recently, Bob. Hell, if you had some good quality discussion time with him, I really think you could show him the good of the Republican Party and the evil of the DemoKKKrat Part. Very frustrating when people don’t trust EITHER party, especially when they don’t trust OUR CORE standards and have no interest in helping us rebuild the party WITH those core standards

anyway, can’t wait to see your material from the event, and see what it’s like. Have a great time!

  6. WDC says:

And, tell Glenn to ease up on Medina, I really think she made a big mistake and did not answer the truther question the way she should have. But, we will need people like her in the future and it does no good to destroy her political career now.

  7. Nicolas says:

gotta say, Bob, in these photos, you look VERY happy! plus it was killer that Andrew Breitbart was there, and it’s great that you caught up with the gentleman you knew from Hollywood after a decade.

    good times!

can’t wait to hear more about it as the days go on

  8. Palmetto says:

Fabulous photos, Bpb. Thanks so much for taking the time to post them. Gotta get me at least one of those doormats!

  9. Mauser says:

    Bill would have been pissed?

  10. Mary Ann says:

I agree Palmetto…how much fun would it be to stomp Olbie everytime you went in or out the door!!

  11. Nicolas says:

hell, it would be great if the MRC could SELL those somehow. Is it possible bob>?

  12. Bob says:

I think the MRC may wish to consider a Maddow mat. Here’s where you can get mats and other stuff

  13. Nicolas says:

shit..that site wants me to log in, bob…

  14. Nicolas says:

also, Bob, the fact that you’re wearing a “newsbusters” shirt makes me want one too. do they sell those?

  15. Bob says:

Let me check into the log in issue first.

  16. Trishmac says:

Hi Bob! Love the coverage- keep it up!
Also, please look for some folks I from PA know, Skye/aka Tania/aka Midnight Blue blog, Rich Davis from the American Sheepdogs, and Amy from the PA Conservative Council. Tania is facebooking somewhat, Rich will post his info after the convention, and Amy will email me everything she hears/sees etc!
Wish I were there- but know you and Cory will keep me informed the best! Hope it’s as good as it appears to be! CHENEY??? Wow, that was some coups…

  17. Igor says:

You know some great people, Bob. I have either listened to on radio (Jerry) or follow all of them on blogs (Andrew, etc.).

I feel so left out, here in the Peoples’ RepubliK of Washington State… no pun intended.

Looking forward to you and Glenn meeting up. Send photos!!

    Igor

  18. n.n says:

It’s a small world after all. Enjoy the moment!

  19. Hank says:

    Bob,

Great to know your in the trenches this weekend and give my best to Lieutenant Colonel West and others. I’m sure Cory will have some great photo ops and is making you proud. Next year I’ll have to crash at your place and attend, at least you know I can make the coffee.

Also this Marines salutes you and my brothers from the Navy as today marks the anniversary of the Marine invasion of Iwo Jima. February 19, 1945. Of the 110,000 Marines and Navy Corpsman who took part in the battle, 6,821 were killed (this included over 300 Navy Corpsman) and 19,217 were wounded. The number of American casualties were greater than the total Allied casualties at the Battle of Normandy on D-Day.

    Semper Fi, Hank

  20. Hank says:

your / you’re in the trenches… Hank’s a little too quick on the submit button.

  21. Nicolas says:

found that CPAC’s speakers, like last year, and unlike Obama’s discussions he mentioned, are covered in there entirety on CSPAN, hell, it’s on right now as of the time of my post timestamp

  22. Nicolas says:

gotta say, it’s a little weird for “Megaan” to say “sir/madam”..we definitely have a sir who owns the sight :P

seems like they’re just looking for a free advertising and talking in vague language

  23. Ilion says:

N.N.It’s a small world after all.

    Dude! That’s worth a fatwa!

  24. Ilion says:

… as in, that *calls* for a fatwa.

  25. Nicolas says:

    for day 2:

nice, Bob! glad you met Alan West. that guy is GREAT! I’ve seen him on youtube, and I believe I’m subscribed to his channel

looks like you’re having a great time with everybody there. It definitely is a small world if you can meet up with a guy you served with 20 years ago. who knew?

  26. n.n says:

Ilion, the meetings and renewal of friendships happened on their own. I am not responsible for people crossing paths, in the past, present, or future. It is just a fact of reality, that people from distant places, having previously known each other, will, once again, come together.

Enjoy the reunions and new contacts, Bob! It looks like you have a worthy circle of friends and acquaintances. I definitely like Colonel West’s potential. I hope he has the opportunity to prove his mettle as a public servant. We certainly need people like him.

Ilion, as for the “small world”, rescind the fatwa. I did not, do not, and will not, call for coerced relationships. Each person will, of their own free will, choose their traveling companions throughout life.

So, that was my rejection of involuntary exploitation with respect to relationships, and my continued advocacy for individual dignity.

In case you were joking… Of course you were!

  27. Nicolas says:

here is Alan West’s youtube channel if anybody wants to keep up with him

  28. SFJ says:

Heard LTC West on several interviews. Awesome.

  29. The Machine says:

    Evan Sayet on Notable Quotables.

    Excellent!

  30. OldnyFirefighter says:

Great photos Bob! Since we have conversed about Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, I have done some intensive research & have to agree with you 100%. We definitely need people like Lieutenant Colonel Allen West
in Congress & I think he is definitely POTUS qualified. If he does consider a run for POTUS, he would have my vote.

Enjoy your friends & old buddies as there are never any guarantees you will see them again. I am starting to find that our time is way too short for what we would like to accomplish in our lifetime. I am definitely jealous of you guys, but in a good way. Tell Cory to be careful of his shoulder, as most people only have two & parts are not available at Radio Shack. Enjoy!

  31. Mauser says:

    “(whom I still were liberals….” Bob, I think you __ a word out….

I only caught Jerry Doyle’s show a few times a long time ago, but wheat I did hear I enjoyed. If he’s in the Seattle Market, I don’t know where.

  32. Nicolas says:

writing this from my phone on the road..bear with me. It’s great and not surprising that you met Steven Crowder, Bob. I asked him last year on youtube if he knew you and he said something to the effect of “Ya. He’s great!”. Also, holy crap, Bob, is Crowder TALLER than you slightly or is that just his hair giving him a few inches?
