I wonder if these Hawaiian legislators have been paying attention to events on the mainland, as holidays are seldom named after people with 50% or below approval ratings…

Senate President Colleen Hanabusa wants President Obama’s Aug. 4 birthday to be a state holiday, right up there with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana’ole Day, King Kamehameha I Day and even Christmas. State Rep. Della Au Belatti, D-25th (Tantalus, Makiki, McCully), would like the Jan. 20 date of Obama’s presidential inauguration to be forever known in the Islands as Barack Obama II Ohana Day.
And even Republican state Rep. Gene Ward, R-17th, (Kalama Valley, Queen’s Gate, Hawai’i Kai), hopes to turn 4,124 square feet of overgrown scrub land owned by the state Department of Transportation into President Barack Obama Birthplace State Park.
We’ll give Representative Ward a near miss as naming ‘overgrown scrub land’ after Obama may be a not-so-subtle slam.
Now what was this supposed to accomplish…?
My bet is that it was committed by a couple disgruntled members of the Duke 88.

Why does the Hawaii Department of Transportation own 4,124 square feet of overgrown scrub land in Indonesia?
Ike,
I guess the editor at the Honolulu Advertiser needs a second set of eyes to keep that door from opening.
Instead of a Hawaiian state holiday, why not a commerative plaque at the hospital where he was born?
Just sayin……
the reporter axed about the effigy… um, am I wrong in remembering there were similar effigies of sarah palin and possibly GW bush as well in the past? I could be wrong. And of course, 2 wrongs don’t make a right.
@Syble – Yes, you do remember right. But they weren’t our first 1/2 black president with a major messiah complex. At least I don’t recall them being so.
–the reporter axed …
Interesting…
