    ‘With crayons’

This is actually a comment on the videos covering the ‘art therapy’ rehabilitation program in Saudi Arabia that appeared Tuesday. I started to post something then, but thought better of it at that time.

With respect to the ‘ex-terrorists’ who are the object of the program, those people have rather disturbed thinking processes. Who can blame them for that? Even here, those who develop critical thinking skills do so entirely on their own – they certainly don’t learn them in our public schools or our universities. Can these art therapy programs help with that? I don’t know; I’m certainly not qualified to judge. Time will tell. In any event, it is unlikely that any program will prove 100% successful.

Answering this question gives us no guidance on how to answer another, more important (to us) question: What should we do with the Gitmo detainees? It is disturbing that some of them have already been proved beyond any doubt to have been put there in error. That’s not good. Does anyone know how to avoid that? Evidently not. We should certainly be willing to admit to errors when they occur and make restitution to the victims.

The part about both these videos that bothered me were the references to mistreatment at Gitmo. The videos’ glaring fault in this is that they aired statements made by people who would have had absolutely no way of knowing whether their accusations were based on fact, and then gave no opportunity for rebuttal. Did it happen? I don’t know. Could it have happened? Certainly. It definitely happened at Abu Ghraib. I know from having worked with a former prison guard that mistreatment will develop to the degree that the commander will allow, and no further.

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone. I’m looking forward to next November’s elections.

  2. Eric says:

I’ll find out in a few hours if I keep my Resolution this year, “Live to see the next year” I pick the same one every year. The greatest thing is that If I fail to keep it, then I can’t be mad at myself.

  3. Mauser says:

By the way, it’s my birthday today.

Not good when the enemy knows how to get at the CIA… and succeeds

Committed by an “Afghan army official”. Subversion from within is the most insidious betrayal.

Innovative idea of Apple to put that volume control on it

Not obvious enough! It is the government’s duty to guide people in the proper use of a “noise”-making device. It seems that our education system has, once again, failed to enlighten its students.

Fortunately, saner minds prevailed… this time.

The court also noted that Apple issues a warning with each iPod which states that “permanent hearing loss may occur if earphones or headphones are used at high volume”.

Maybe it’s an issue of literacy? Keep them illiterate and dependent.

Venezuela’s Chavez warns against coup attempts

Not to worry. Chavez will simply “nationalize” yet another sector of the economy, further emasculating the people, and the castle will be protected. However, in case he fails to completely consolidate power, it would be advisable that his supporters gather within the walls, in order to avoid the people’s resistance.

Good luck, Chavez. The American progressives support your brand of “progress”.

White House prepares for immigration overhaul battle

Immigrants are welcome, while invaders (i.e., illegal aliens) are not.

    Happy and Hopeful New Year!

  5. Ilion says:

Why do Muslims get mad at us for wanting to stop attacks instead of at those who commit them?

For much the same reasons that the leftists and “liberals” in our midst were anti-anti-communists, always getting themselves worked up over imaginary “McCarthyism” (which was a myth from the beginning) but ignoring that there those who wanted to enslave or kill us all — Islam is political ideaology of Arab supremicism, Islam is the Arab attempt to displace the Jews as God’s Chosen People.

Since we are not Moslems, by this ideaology we are never “innocent” and so we may be murdered with impunity. And, even were we Moslems, since we are not Arabs, the Arabs know themselves free to murder us with impunity — all the while calling us “brother.”

  8. Mauser says:

2009 can die in a fire.
