@fboiteau – Wind chill is actually a calculated value. I don’t know the formulat, but it takes into account ambient temp, avg wind speed, and humidity, much as the “heat index” down here is calculated by temp and rel humidity.

Actually here’s a chart that includes the formula: Wind chill

FWIW, here’s a chart for heat index, in case anyone in Florida is concerned: Heat index

Cheers, stay warm (or whatever you need) ;)

  2. tv2112 says:

fb, actually the temp chart is accurate (for ND at least). We’ve been at -9 to -14 static all week and wind chill made it worse. I really don’t mind the cold until I have to start plugging my truck in (-10F). We’ll break out ther grills when it hits the twenties!

  3. The Machine says:

Did you check out the audience response to Sarah?

And that’s a decidedly leftist/democrat crowd for that show.

    Shades of Renaldus Maximus.

    Slapshot -

I want to put a “My Carbon Footprint is Bigger Than Yours” on the back of my F-250 Diesel Super Duty 4×4, but it may just get vandalized if I did.

  5. SlapShot says:

I was just thinking this morning, that I wished I could find a shirt that has ” I (heart) Carbon”. I would need it before the first week of January when my family reunion is. It would make my sister go ballistic.

  6. fboiteau says:

the only thing i dislike with that temperature chart is that it contains “wind chill” temperature, which is completely subjective.

For instance, someone living in Vancouver will complain of the cold at temperatures bordering water freezing point. In Montreal, where I’m at, people will not really complain until it reaches -10 celsius. In Winnipeg, people will not complain until it’s around -20 celsius.
(in Orlando, FL, i’ve seen people wearing large coats at around 10 celsius[50 F], which will see me walking out in a t-shirt)

And the wind chill calculation is based off tests made with 8 people…from Toronto (at least the canadian version of it…)

Actual temperatures today in montreal (listed as 0 F in the chart above) is at around -7 celsius (which is 19.4 F). It is cold outside, but it’s not THAT cold (0 F is around -18 celsius)

Temperatures like this in mid-december are VERY common. The last few years, when temps were relatively higher (for instance, back in 2006, we had a first(at least in the last 30 years) that there was no snow whatsoever on Christmas day.

Obviously the enviros stated THIS would be winter 30 years from now and used this unusually warm winter as “proof” of the theory.
