What Is Google/YouTube Up To?
It’s funny; liberals always complaint about the lack of ethics and fairness when it comes to monopolies… unless they own them. Democrat-controlled congress, senate, and White House: okay. Oil companies and banks: problem. And since they have some of their favorite people at (let’s say) Google, making it so they can moderate the flow of information, that’s okay.
Some conservatives are wary of the fact, for example, that without much notice or recourse YouTube (Google) can remove videos and/or terminate a user’s account for a variety of reasons. With that, you can imagine my suspicion when I recently began receiving numerous emails from YouTube…
Dear BlackAndRight,
Your video Black History Month has become popular on YouTube, and you’re eligible to apply for the YouTube Partnership Program, which allows you to make money from playbacks of your video.
Once you’re approved, making money from your video is easy. Here’s how it works: First sign into your YouTube account. Then, complete the steps outlined here: http://www.youtube.com/ivp?v=S7KmtezWVGU. Once you’re finished, we’ll start placing ads next to your video and pay you a share of the revenue as long as you meet the program requirements.
We look forward to adding your video to the YouTube Partnership Program. Thanks and good luck!
The YouTube Team
That seemed enticing enough, although I was also taken aback by the very recent surge in popularity of some of my videos. Google wants to put ads on some of them because of that “popularity”, I’ve got all these new people subscribing to my YouTube channel… it all seems too perfect a storm.
So just for the hell of it, I checked out the “steps”. It includes their “VIDEO MONETIZATION AGREEMENT”, which appears to be a standard contract, but after you agree to those terms, specific information is requested followed by the ominous,
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If your video is not approved for revenue sharing, it may be removed from YouTube.
This makes no fucking sense… unless their motives are a way of purging while the user essentially gives them justification, thus permission to do so.
YouTube emailed me, as I said, numerous times. They invited me to share in revenues with them for my creations on their platform, and if they reject my application, they can remove my video.
Tonight I received an email back from a video I submitted. As I explained to YouTube on the application, I create graphics for my videos.
Well, YouTube wants me to send them the original graphic file I created for a video I produced three years ago on an old computer I no longer have, in a state I no longer live in. I basically told them thanks, but no thanks because this is kind of a hassle. Does this now give YouTube the justification to remove that video altogether?
How many videos have they removed because people took their bait?

I got the same email.
My single video upload on youtube, the “whoopi goldberg it’s not rape-rape” clip from “the view”, garnered over 80k views and over a thousand comments.

good question, Bob
I wouldn’t buy into it, I’m sure you can make better money elsewhere, certainly hope your videos doesn’t go away. to me, it’s THE DEFINITIVE video that spells out DemoKKKrat racism
they’ve occasionally purged conservative republican channels, I’m just happy my channel is still intact. even if mine gets purged, I certainly hope yours continues to thrive, Bob

also I just want to say it’s hypocrisy on NBC and Google/Youtube’s part
NBC cries fowl on those posting recent SNL clips ripping Obama to shreds (finally), and Youtube cleans it up, yet they LEAVE the sexist SNL clips that had a disparaging view of Palin
WHAT THE FUCK?!

hey, what about those cool new phones with google built right in – that’s a deal and a half huh?
Stay far away from the googlemonsters …

They want their share of the revenue too. Have a lot of problems with Tube. They would coerce you into helping them make more money with the threat of removing your video and if anyone posts a TnA video it is pulled within minutes yet they will host and support this channel http://www.youtube.com/user/TheIslamicEmirate. We just aren’t supposed to be supporting someone we are at war with on US soil.

googlemonsters
Any relation to the “Cookie Monster”?
Thanks for the laugh. I was concerned to be deprived of my daily dose; but, never fear, Google’s nature has been revealed, and we laugh, and laugh, … googlemonsters — Too funny!

It is just that they are liberal and greedy and as my dad always says “two wrongs don’t make a right”. Anybody that ads ran Google adds knows how expensive they can be.

Hey Bob do you post on qubetv? Maybe if more people used it it would give Youtube some competition.

Have you ever asked them for a clarification of this? I’d be interested to see the answer.
Heh, I almost typoed ClariFICTION, which would probably be more accurate.

Personally, I don’t have time to request form responses. But if they start deleting videos… all bets are off.
