I know I’ve been committing myself early the last few days, but I go with my gut. Here’s another that may be tough to top.
This from Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor today.
Democrats have spent six weeks behind closed doors putting together a trillion-dollar experiment in government-run health care that raises premiums, raises taxes, and cuts Medicare. We’ve now had less than 48 hours to look through this 2,074-page bureaucratic nightmare. But here are 10 things that every American should know about this bill.
Okay, here we go…
- The Democrat bill includes nearly half a trillion dollars in new taxes that hit virtually every American, including middle class families making less than $250,000 a year.
- The Democrat bill would increase insurance premiums for individuals and families.
- The Democrat bill cuts Medicare for seniors by nearly half a trillion dollars ($465 billion) and limits the choices that millions of seniors now enjoy.
- The Democrat bill won’t lower health care costs according to the Congressional Budget Office.
- The true cost of this bill over 10 years, when fully implemented, is about $2.5 trillion.
- Under the Democrat bill, if you like the health insurance you have, you may not be able to keep it.
- The Democrat bill would let government bureaucrats dictate what kind of health plans Americans must purchase and what benefits they can receive.
- The Democrat bill creates a government plan that CBO has said would have higher premiums.
- The Democrat bill would, for the first time in history, allow federal programs to pay for elective abortions.
- Finally, Americans should know that this bill doesn’t have the common-sense reforms that they have been asking for all along, like getting rid of junk lawsuits and leveling the playing field when it comes to health care taxes.
Americans want reform. But higher premiums, higher taxes, and cuts to Medicare to create more government isn’t reform. Yet that’s precisely what they’d get with this Democrat bill.
And if this gets rammed through and the cheapskate left starts bitching, asked them how much of the bill they read, and if getting what they wanted was worth more that having to pay for what they wanted (and they WILL pay for it in the wallet and at the ballot box next November).

My Mary received a phone call this week from the local Democrat party, and they wanted her to call our 2 senators to express her support for this garbage (she is a blue dog). When she refused, they told her she was a piss poor democrat. They also had the information that there are 2 conservatives in this house, and they wanted to know why she was listening to us. Is it so wrong to think for oneself ???
Actually I heard today that there is going to be a March in May 2010, but who knows, they/we might have to make it sooner if the healthcare is carried over into 2010, and the country killing cap & trade issue arises again… The way this government is trying to ram their obscene spending down our throats, we may be marching in mid winter!
Dave thanks. See Bob’s post Email of the day.
People are calling New Orleans Chamber of commerce and stating they will NOT visit or vacation in N.O. or LA and will not buy any products from there if their senator votes for this bill.
http://www.neworleanschamber.org/ is the website, the phone number is at the bottom….. the deal isn’t done until the vote is taken… and remember, we can HOPE to make a CHANGE in the forward motion of this horrible legislation.
Syble,
I greatly appreciate your efforts and information but the later is a bit dated. Dont bother calling Landrieu, Mary L. – (D – LA) as her vote has been purchased by Reid’s amendment pledge of $100M to La.
$100M health care vote
Trishmac,
many groups and orgs are already in the planning stages for a repeat of 9/12 – I only hope that by then it will not be too late for us, that we won’t have lost every freedom before then.
Please do try to call the senators. I know it’s a pain in the butt to look every one of them up to get all their contact information, but that’s what we must do. I have called every local office and sent emails or used their contact us forms for so many senators, starting with the key ones listed above and it takes up a lot of time. But when citizens invest the time in doing this it sends a big message. We are individuals doing this – it must be important! FOr every letter they receive it’s as if 100 others sent one. For every email, it’s as if 50 were behind them. and for each phone call, well, we can say a lot in a personal phone call…. and the more calls, the better.
I did ask if there was a way for Americans to reach every senator with one email or other comm and was told NOPE. Now, wouldn’t that make sense?
That would be a good piece of legislation to lobby – a one-shot email to reach all 100 senate members.
Unbelievable. Un-f-ing believable. These criminal sleazy politicians are trying to ruin our healthcare and our country, and we aren’t even supposed to be upset, we’re just supposed to take it. We aren’t supposed to ask why THEY WON”T be affected by thier horrible horrible bill, we’re just supposed to trust them.
Well guess what all you dirtbags, I will not stand for it, and will do everything left in my power to fight it!
Bob, there has to be another march on Washington, I can’t
simply contnue to email call and fax anymore politicians, I want to see them!!!!
Today I called all the Senate offices and their local offices – all were either busy or their voicemail boxes were full. I sent emails, but are these people really likely to read thru them?
So I called the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. “A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request.” And so someone did.
She connected me to Harry Reid’s office, since he is the Senate leader. I started talking to the girl who answered the phone. I gave my name, zip code, and phone number.
I told her that though I come from a state different than that of Sen. Reid, his vote affects me and every other American. I told her that I oppose the 2,074-page bill, that it was Un-Constitutional, that it is big government intruding on the lives of all Americans.
She hung up on me!
I tried calling back – got the “this circuit is busy’ so I can’t even finish my thoughts.
Here is Reid’s DC number: (202) 224-3542
Please call it at least, and if you get through remind him (via the aide) that the bill is UNconstitutional, the gov’t has NO RIGHT to mandate we participate in a program or face fines/jail time, and that if they truly wanted to take care of the 35 million or so who don’t have health care, just make another program for them – it will certainly cost less – rather than shoving gigantic gov’t takeover down our throats!
