I was having the discussion with a colleague yesterday and I basically said the same thing that Hoge said…he was faced with a decision to either give the ball back to the Colts or to go for it and and try to keep the ball and therefore end the game. His decision was correct even though the results were not what he was looking for. Peyton Manning was hot and would probably have taken it down the field to score even if they had gotten the ball deep in their own territory. Going for it on 4th down was the right decision…even though the result was not what they were looking for.
I think Belichick made the right call by going for it on 4th down, just not the correct play selection.
The MNF game was dismal and I am looking forward to the day when either A) Cowher or B) Dungy or C) Gruden are named Head Coach of the Cleveland Clowns. Preferably Cowher.
