The “Or Else…” Party

It was almost comical, watching the Democrats argue against the Stupak Amendment, blasting the notion that women would lose their right to choose if taxpayers didn’t pick up the tab on abortions. For decades, the Democrats tried to come off as the party of “choice”, but that was all dashed to pieces with the Saturday night House passage of the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962).
I say “dashed to pieces” because there is very little in the whole concept of government-run anything that involves choice.
This is a bill that we will be forced to pay for now and won’t kick in until 2013, the year after the Obama Administration is reelected so the president won’t have to explain its shortcomings.
This is a bill that will only be successful if it has no private sector competition, so it has mechanisms in place to squash competition to the point where people will have to get on the “public option”.
This is a bill that punishes citizens who choose not to enroll on the government plan, yet buys the votes of the youth who’ll get the privilege of living off their parents’ plan until their 27th birthday.
While the Republicans were prodded into coming up with a ramped-down version of universal health care, yet were still called “The Party of “No”, this is a bill that forces people to be insured (eventually by the government) and failure to do so can result in fines and/or imprisonment.
In other words, we know better so do as we say “or else”.
It’s not like this will affect many of our elected. Not only have they declined to participate in the same plan they inflict on the rest of us, but many of them can pay for whatever procedures this bill may deny us. Pardon me for playing some reverse class warfare, but how can they tell us we’ll get the best coverage money can buy, when in reality, they can?
Of the over 500 members of the House and Senate, 237 are millionaires. It’s been argued that an elderly person who suffered from the same affliction as Ted Kennedy may not have received the same care under Obama-Pelosicare. As part of the political elite, Kennedy could buy whatever care he wanted. But not all Americans are millionaires.
Under H.R. 3962, the average American family will be forced to pay upwards of $15,000 per year for health care. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have much room in my budget for an additional grand-plus per month, under penalty of law. We heard the stories about people having to choose between something and paying for insurance. Under this plan, it’s not like there will be much choice.
Of course, those who can’t afford it will be eligible for “subsidies”. That means the government will once again place us in the position of kissing their asses, doing what they want, when they want it, just to keep them off our case, and I look forward to going to yet another government office and receiving the warmth, compassion, and understanding that makes these experiences so great.
The only upside will be watching The “Or Else” Party explain to the American people why they’re being forced to pay for something now they won’t receive for four years, and that’s only after you reward them with reelection.
So we’ll endure the video replays of House Democrats counting down and gloating after they received the passing votes. We’ll endure the activists on the left rubbing this victory in our faces. We’ll endure the next year of Democrats telling their constituents (and technically their employers) to jump and how high, and when the November 2010 rights these wrongs, I look forward to their laments about maybe “doing too much, to fast”.
They weren’t so humble when they were telling the American people what to do… or else.

I retched last night. Then had nightmares. And where I live, those applying for, or ‘on government plans’ (who actually need it) don’t get anything unless they are black. Yet I am not supposed to talk about that.

Many groups will be bought off by this legislation, should it ultimately pass, and we will be the ones paying for the vote buy.

Like Bob says, the liberal programs are so wonderful that they need force and coercion to get you to use them.

Almost wish the amendment didn’t go through- it’s probably what passed the bill in the end.

I’m no stock market expert. What are the chances of people dumping medical or insurance related stocks on Monday causing
the market to drop ??

Good question. That could be something to watch should the senate pass the bill as well.

I have never been so scared of my own government before.
