QUICK NOTE — Had a very nice time last night at the Alexandria Republican City Committee meeting. Good to see jazzed Republicans looking forward with results (unlike my home state…).
ADVICE SOUGHT — Cory re-injured his shoulder a few weeks ago and can’t work his weekend job where it happened until he gets a doctor’s note. The problem is his Workman’s Comp adjuster (PMA Insurance) was away while she was getting married, doesn’t return messages, and she never contacted his Massachusetts surgeon to get his medical records so a doctor in Virginia can clear him, and the insurance company won’t give him a different adjuster so he’s stuck with the bitch. He’s lost a significant amount of wages while this ditz is blowing him off.
Please send an email if you can suggest a potent course of action.
“American Muslim Groups Condemn Fort Hood Shootings”
I could care less about the Muslim groups, but I feel for the man’s family. It’s really weird, but they remind me of a conservative, religious family who hunted and fished together – and then one of their sons became a gun- and food-stockpiling survivalist with paranoia about the government. He moved to Montana with his wife and in-laws, and none of them has heard from him since.
I had a conversation with several Muslim co-workers and neighbors whose families immigrated in the ’60s and ’70s. They were happy and proud to become American. They didn’t understand why young men romanticize sharia law or why young women cover their heads – in fact, they were the first ones who explained to me that Muslim women DON’T HAVE TO. I can’t imagine how they would feel if one of their grandsons became anti-American or if one of their granddaughters decided to don a burkha.
Judging just from my peers, I think that often young Americans want to have an exotic identity, so they latch onto something like their grandparent’s nationality or an idealized view of the “motherland” – kind of forgetting why their forefathers and foremothers didn’t head back to the “motherland” themselves.
(Yes, I’m rambling again.)

I’m really late to the party with this, but I think it would tweak the liberals a bit if we started referring to Obama’s shameful Ft. Hood statement as “Obama’s My Pet Goat Moment.”
