2nd Update: Screenshot Of The Day

This is a first. I’ve screenshot myself.

I wrote a post earlier about Dr. King, and as usual I provided a link to the original, but I guess the link wasn’t enough.
"On The Day" post
The original story, linked to, came from the site “Grand Old Partisan” by Michael Zak.

Mr. Zak just sent me the following email, entitled “Please credit my Grand Old partisan blog as the source for the Martin Luther King article”

Plagarism is for Democtats.
Michael Zak
www.RepublicanBasics.com

I credit every source on B&R and I removed the post since I can’t physically give sources the neon light treatment.

Oh, and Mr. Zak, you can take my name off your mailing list as you obviously don’t need traffic sent your way.

UPDATE: Michael Zak replied and cc’d those whom he must consider my superiors at MRC (and you know B&R has no official link to MRC)

I don’t know you at all.

The proper, respectful way to refer to someone else’s work on the internet is to either post a hyperlink along with a brief description or to post a paragraph or so, with an explicit reference to the source, following by the hyperlink. Burying a link in an article is not attribution, as the Media Research Center should know. Such slyness is verboten even at lefty blogs such as the HuffPo. The Drudge Report and Instapundit are good examples to follow.

I have devoted years, unpaid, to helping the Republican Party appreciate their own heritage, and for a wealthy, famous writer to appropriate my work is insulting and unacceptable.

I got a kick out of his ignorant “wealthy” line.

SECOND UPDATE — When Mr. Zak sent emails to my place of employment, as it turns out, it wasn’t all about me…

The Bob Parks article about Martin Luther King on his Black-and-Right blog is copied, without attribution, from my Grand Old Partisan – http://grandoldpartisan.typepad.com – blog.

By way of apology, the MRC could write an article about my blog and speeches and www.RepublicanBasics.com and Back to Basics for the Republican Party, my acclaimed history of the GOP.

Best regards,
Michael Zak

What part of I-don’t-write-for-MRC and B&R-isn’t-affiliated-with-MRC does this guy not understand?

My co-workers were pleasantly amused, but unfortunately no “apology” article about his blog is in the immediate works.

Mr. Zak has a crappy site. He could have used your referrals as well as your advice on site design. His lost. We love you! Try not to take his BS personal. My opinion… he’s a RINO. Look at the photo of him and Steele on his site. YUCK. What a waste of time to check out his site.

  2. unfatmatt Says:

His site and profile pic paint him as a self-aggrandizing Greedy Old Poser.

  3. MEmanuel Says:

That’s funny Bob, the link was soooooo buried in the very first paragraph highlighted in bright red that a click on it brought me right to Mr. Zak’s rather unimpressive and uncommented upon blog. Either you intended to credit his work, or you’re the world’s worst internet appropriator.

Why are the guys on our side such delicate douchebags? First, the moron that tried to say you were a racist, and now this guy.

My advice for Mr Zak would be for him to carefully remove the knot his panties are in, and revel in the fact that someone’s actually paying him respect by referencing his work in the first place.

  4. ortzinator Says:

Hot Air does it this way, most blogs do.

  5. n.n Says:

Misplaced priorities. It happens to the best of us, at one time or another.

  6. Lazarus Long Says:

    “delicate douchbags” Priceless!!

  7. Igor Says:

Bob, ignore the clueless yahoo, you’re good to go. Some people shouldn’t have been given the car keys in the first place…

    Igor

  8. Igor Says:

Dang. The moron is at the bottom of the hole he dug, and just keeps on digging!!

    What a maroon…

    Igor

  9. IT Nerd Says:

He’s a 1%’er Bob. The other 99% here appreciate your work.

  10. BHD Says:

This dude needs to read blogs. Every blog I read links the articles just as you did. So what is thing guy talking about. Is he just in need of attention that he has to scream at people who are kind enough to link to his site so others can go to his site as well. I mean really, this guy makes no sense.
Oh well, Bob you do a wonderful job, don’t let this fool ruin a great day!

  11. fboiteau Says:

I got two words (and some comments) for Mr. Zak

    Attention. Whore.

B&R(and its prior iteration which I shall not name) has presented its hyperlinks in the same manner for all the time I’ve been here, which is well over two years. I have not heard of anyone complain about lack of propercredit on linked content.

There is always a different paragraph form and different text color to all outside sources to identify them, as well as the link prior to said quote. Only an idiot would assume these attached quotes would be Bob’s. (if the shoe fits, wear it)

The fact that your name/blog be clearly identified, as opposed to any other links posted on this blog, reeks of narcissism.

  12. bobkatowc51 Says:

This is sorta like when people don’t read, beyond the neck of the bottle. I even found the link. Went to the site expecting more but…..

  13. Nicolas Says:

“I got a kick out of his ignorant “wealthy” line.”

as would I. Ya I link to stuff on my blog..that doesn’t automatically make ME freakin’ wealthy etc etc etc..

You must’ve about fallen out of your chair laughing at that line, right Bob?

“My co-workers were pleasantly amused, but unfortunately no “apology” article about his blog is in the immediate works.”

exactly, I bet the folks at MRC definitely get a kick out of your writing and perspective. I find it interesting this so-called Republican elitist wants to “snitch” to the MRC about your article etc, like some little kid. If his site is called “grand old partisan”..he SOUNDS partisan as HELL! jeeeeeeze

on a better note, I DO like the photo with Eisenhower and Dr. King. fantastic

  14. Nicolas Says:

oh, another point I wanted to make is that you, Bob, are just a guy with a blog and an amazing internet TV show, who these days, just happens to work for the MRC

neither B&R or the MRC are connected. this guy’s skull must be pretty thick to not realize that

  15. The Machine Says:

Ye olde wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  16. Mauser Says:

Although I imagine the Infolinks junk can confuse someone with red/Green colorblindness.
