Police and witnesses say the melee was a culmination of a simmering rivalry between two groups of Chicago high school students, one that lived near Fenger High School and the other from the Altgeld Gardens housing projects. Neighbors said the feud has been building since August.

Teen Attacked, Beaten to Death in Melee

Rival gang members have been fighting for a month — and each time one of their fellow classmates is injured.
Derrion Albert, 16, was struck in the head by one of those boards.
Seconds later the honor student hit the pavement. That’s when witnesses, who are other high school students, say gangbangers began stomping on and punching Albert.
he was “trying to help another student and kind of got mixed in with the crowd of the fight and he was hit.”

Being this is Chicago, I am not shocked, although it is sad and pathetic. Such a disdain and disrespect for life, over nothing. I feel for the kids in these areas that want to maximize their abilities and get out. It is hard to study and live life when you got to worry about this shit all of the time. Everytime they play gangsta rap or glamorize that life, they should play this video right along with it. Let the viewer decide for themselves.
