    “When Speechwriters Kiss and Tell”
A big problem in this country is people get rich and famous for…….doing nothing. What happened to all of the entrepreneurs, engineers, artists, developers, and other people that actually build and contribute. The media talks everyday about people that take, but give nothing. Sad.
“Iraqi shoe thrower Muntazer al-Zaidi wants to sue George W Bush”
What would have happened if he threw the shoes at Saddam Hussein?”
“Republicans to Push Against Net Neutrality; FCC Says Start of Process”
Just a cover for more censorship of the net. They want to shutdown talk radio and the blogs. Funny, when the net was working to their advantage in the election, none of this came up. The Democrats are just a bunch of crybabies that can’t handle debate on anything. They know they can’t keep throwing out the race card, so now they need to regulate those “anti-american” bloggers. It is funny to hear the words “anti-patriot” or “subversive” from a party that doesn’t seem to like america either.

I believe Bob’s comment says everything.

“U.S. charges Obama fund-raiser in $290 million fraud”
What alot of politicians and leaders do. Have someone do the fundraising, enemy-bashing, blackmailing, and other dirty work, but remain independent enough through a series of shell groups so there is no direct link. Obama is from Chi-town, this is par for the course there.
    “Bush as rival risky tactic”
Hey, time lessens intensities. Even Carter got more popular after his disaster. The Bush the left should be worried about is George P. Bush, Jeb’s son. Young, handsome, conservative and half-hispanic. I am telling you if this guy starts running for office, he has a good career ahead of him. Regardless, Obama has peaked, but he will be around for a bit. Hurry up, 2010 elections!

“Senate Democrats Grapple with a Suddenly Less Promising 2010″
They are not throught with the character attacks. They are upping the attacks on Beck, the video duo that exposed ACORN will undergo some sort of indictment or harassment, and the net neutrality push will lead to censorship of blogs and websites somehow. This is the kind of fighting one does when their back is against the wall. Machiavelli and Alinsky like a you-know-what.

Yep, Glenn Beck pointed that out over three weeks ago, and he’s been yelling it long enough and loud enough that the Liberals and the LameStream Media are starting to sweat bullets…

No, but it needs to be in a Personal Injury court and maybe even Federal Court for … terrorism…

    “Bad News for Broadband”

Net Neutrality is a double-edged sword. I work for an ISP/telephone company/video provider. There are TONS of regulatory hurdles and costs to becoming a competitive service provider, that most would-be start-ups just look at them and turn their back. I’ve been in some of those meetings. That speaks nothing of the cost of equipment and transport. My state (Iowa) actually has the most independent telephone companies of any in the nation, numbering somewhere between 150-200 or so, most servicing less than 10,000 subscribers. Interestingly, we also have the highest percentage of broadband coverage. So much so, in fact, that many telcos have 100% broadband coverage and have dropped dial-up service altogether. The little guys out-perform Qwest, Comcast, Mediacom, etc. There could be even more if providers weren’t locked out of competing. Mediacom and Qwest have a virtual monopoly in Des Moines and other larger cities/towns in Iowa. Sure there are several ISPs offering DSL in Des Moines, but they have to use Qwest’s copper to the customer’s premise and pay Qwest for such. No one other than Mediacom can even lay cable in town. The cell companies with wireless data connections are growing hugely because of this.

The rules given by the FCC chairman sound all well and good. That’s actually how everything has been run to date aside from a very small handful that push it (Comcast). There’s always some amount of network management in the background. You have to. Bandwidth is getting cheaper but it’s not free. Worms and other virii run rampant, as does file-sharing. Video streaming from sites like Youtube and Hulu are also high, and voice traffic is growing as SIP trunks become more widely used for cost-savings over traditional telephony SS7 links. The technology that can do things like strip virii from traffic or troubleshoot and find flaws in the network and be a huge benefit can also be used to limit/block bit-torrent, or to fulfill Law Enforcement obligations.

The problem comes into play requiring data to be delivered. Providers rely in a large part on reputation, and as such, most go by the rule of “allow everything through” unless it significantly hurts. If you think SPAM is a problem now, just wait until the providers allow the other 95% of it through as could be required by law. If anything, some regulations need to be lifted to allow more competition. The ‘net wants to be free, but requiring service providers to allow everything will cause rates for bandwidth to skyrocket, quality of voice, video and speed to nosedive, and thus bills to customers will increase. All while content providers that don’t pay for that all that bandwidth directly get by pretty cheap in comparison. As is the case with most legislation (and not with just this administration), the verbiage is so vague that implementing the rules given leaves an incredible amount of room for abuse and litigation. Of course, we know which side favors abuse litigation over common sense and free market principles.
