Sure … lots of platitudes about fulfilling responsibility, hard work, and setting personal goals for achievement. FINE! GOOD! Hat tip to Obama for some great points. But then, rat poison is made up of 99.995% “good” grain and only 0.005% CHLOROPHACINONE. A higher percentage of poison makes it obvious that it’s not very palatable.
One paragraph reveals that Obama’s “pitch” is based on the philosophy of social justice … even in education. All of the “good stuff” points to HIS purpose for education (notice that nowhere does he talk about making $$$):
“You’ll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to … PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT. You’ll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to FIGHT POVERTY and HOMELESSNESS, crime and DISCRIMINATION, and MAKE OUR NATION MORE FAIR and more free.”
Machine, thanks for your observations. His sappy tale of his deprived childhood keeps getting harder and harder to swallow.
Funny, he forgot to mention that he attended one of the most exclusive private schools in Honolulu, where he, by his own admission, squandered his time by doing drugs and generally being a slacker.
I personally “vetted” this speach, and plan on letting my grandaughter go to school tomorrow. I told her that if they
play the speech, that she should just ignore it, and she does
not have to do any assignment afterwards.
I do this mostly because it is a city school, and I won’t have
her classmates label her a racist.
RoseRRR:
From the text:
“When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years…”
I’ve got questions, I’m sure your teenagers will. He opened that door. Maybe they should stufy up on the laws applicable in Indonesia at the time, the Madrassa thing, the fact that one had to be a Muslim to attend.
“and my mother didn’t have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday – at 4:30 in the morning.”
Is that because she knew the Madrassa wasn’t teaching him what he needed to know? You know, the basics?
“I get it. I know what that’s like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn’t always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn’t fit in.”
Back to Indonesia, where his mother was supposedly already remarried…
A lie right in the middle of the speech?
You be the judge.
“Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don’t feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren’t right. “
Mr. President, “What are you doing to protect us in those neighborhoods?”
“I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work — “
Mr. President, “What examples can you give us of hard work that you have done?”
You said, “that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star, when chances are, you’re not going to be any of those things.”
Yet, two paragraphs later, you quote Michael Jordan.
Would Michael Jordan have wanted to hear the President of the United States tell him that “chaces are, you’re not going to…”?
Which one is it, can’t have both.
“Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, “
Mr. President, “Can you give us an example where you recently needed help and asked someone?”
“I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn.”
Mr. President, what specifically have you done in order to accomplish that?
“Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you’ve got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you.”
Notice how our Glorious Leader is going to do it all…I EXPECT this and I am DOING that…
And on the Eighth Day God created Obama…
Here is something that Obama should teach the children:
China alarmed by US money printing
Fiscal responsibility!
“He who goes borrowing, goes sorrowing,” said Mr Cheng.
Mr. Cheng was quoting Benjamin Franklin (smart man). Even communists can learn from their mistakes. Why can’t ours?
My two teenagers have elected to attend the speech so that they can express their dissent.
I have printed copies of the speech and they are going to make notes for topics of rebuttal.
One of the comments in the speech that disturbs me is where Obama urges students to gain “insights and critical thinking skills” so that they can “make our nation more fair and more free.”
I am hard pressed to think of many other nations with the fairness and freedoms this nation provides its citizens!
Let me know if you can think of other areas they can include in their rebuttals.
Yes, we do.
liberal/media line
It is trully unfortunate that they did not have the opportunity to experience indoctrination first-hand in the CCCP, Nazi Germany, NK, PRC, etc. They fail to comprehend the nuanced methods by which these people work. Only time will tell… Wait, that time has come:
Obama and Ayers Pushed Radicalism On Schools
He can’t “fix” Chicago, but we are to believe that he can “fix” America. Yes, he can! Obama-man can!
(Greg Morton is another “sell-out” that simply does not comprehend reality, unlike the “worst and dimmest” leading our Republic.)
It’s one thing to be radical; but, the results of their agenda are obvious. “The proof is in the pudding,” as they say.
