I was shocked the first time I heard about New York teachers’ incompetence; I think it was in the early ’90s when many couldn’t pass a basic skills test in the subjects they taught. But here’s what I don’t understand: I’m renewing my professional certification and I have to have been teaching classes, not just showing up for work! Plus, the “highly qualified” restriction in the No Child Left Behind Act made a lot of our older teachers retire because of the extra classes, tests, etc. How are these “rubber room” teachers able to renew their certification, let alone jump through the hoops to make them highly-qualified?

What’s prudish about advising conservative women to refrain from a) posting compromising photos on the Internet, b) dressing provocatively in the workplace, and c) referring to themselves or their female friends as “sluts” or “hos” or “cunts”? You’d think that people would know those things, but they don’t. At my old workplace, two managers used to give the interns, in addition to the serious info, an article from VIBE about how to dress and behave at work. It was funny, but it also made some of them realize that just because they spent a lot of money on something didn’t make it work-appropriate.
One more note on dignity and life in general.
It is better to start at the top and work your way down, than to start at the bottom and have nowhere to go. I refer to this philosophy of living as pragmatic idealism. Start with the ideal and make compromises as necessary due to constraints imposed by reality. This philosophy has served me well in both my personal and professional life.
It’s not prudery. It is dignity!
We are more than our body, unless you’re a regressive and believe the unsubstantiated claim that humans have a common lineage with animals. I do not. They will have to do better than the circumstantial evidence they offer now. Speaking of AGCC/AGW, how is that faring? Never mind, I already know.

Hey, EVERYBODY had dirt on them. Regardless of what happens to the CIA, they will not forget what is being done to them. Neither will the next administration. THe CIA has been around alot longer than Eric Holder. I know I sound like a broken record, but watch what happens to all of this if we get another 9/11-type attack.
