HuffPo’s Derrick Responds

Lisa DerrickI must give The Huffington Post’s contributor Lisa Derrick some credit for coming here and responding to a rebuttal of what I consider a whiny post about Tea Party activists carrying signs comparing Barack Obama to Adolph Hitler.

Godwin’s Law is the last resort and not something I condone by either party. I am curious if the Duval County Republican Party did not wish to endorse or support the views of those comparing Obama to Hitler, why did their Director of Social Media Stephen Butters post those picture to their Facebook page?. They have been removed, but you can see all of them at http://lafiga.firedoglake.com/2009/07/05/is-it-free-speech-hitlerobama-comparisons-at-republican-promoted-tea-bagging/
where the facebook tags are very clearly attached.

Surely if Ms. Derrick didn’t condone the use of Godwin’s Law, she couldn’t have written her piece because to do so, in all fairness, she would have performed the rather simple search I did and found that the left has been engaged in this tactic long before its counter use at a anti-tax tea bag rally.

Also her use of the term “teabagging” also reveals a partisan agenda, so let’s be blunt. “Teabagging” means lowering your balls onto a woman’s face. If her intent wasn’t to write a blanket partisan hit piece, then that term wouldn’t have been used.

    Ilion and Bob — exactly.

When you have winning premises and flawless reason, why stoop to a tactic that is often employed by one who is LOSING an argument?

  2. Ilion says:

Bob Parks:… And let’s knock off the slights on personal appearance. That’s so liberal and shit can come back very quickly and with much cruelty.

    I agree, on both parts:
    1) it is wrong to mock and/or scorn others because of their (natural) appearance (and also wrong to adulate others because of their appearance),
    2) and doing so is a “liberal” vice, which we conservatives ought never emulate.

    And yet …

  3. n.n says:

Just who does she think conservatives are? We are tolerant people, not pacificists. We do not initiate; but, we will certainly respond. We are neither lemmings, nor sheep, nor the idiotry they would have us be. We are people who respect others, until such time that they lose our respect. We believe that individuals, without intervention of “elite” dictators, are capable of reponsibly living their own lives and managing their own affairs. We help others, when we can, and if we can, with our own resources and time. We believe in individual dignity. We believe that life is fundamental.

If the “liberals” and “progressives” choose to submit to their superiors, the “elites,” so be it. Some people, apparently, require more guidance than others.

We ask that you do not enslave us in your cult. Although, you are more than welcome to practice, as consenting adults, the rituals, indoctrination, masochism/sadism, etc., in the privacy of your own homes (don’t forget Letterman and all others of his ilk). We live in a society, not a collective; a civilization, not a hive; and until you get that through your thick skulls, you will not be able to accept or recognize reality, nor realize peace of mind.

  4. Nicolas says:

    typos be damned..I mean “I just noticed a resemblance….”

  5. Nicolas says:

We know judging based on looks is liberal & all. I had no problem with her appearance, I just noticed a resemble to Janeane Garofalo. I actually thought it was funny that not only did she share the resemblance, but similar “political stance” and arrogance. what are the odds?

  6. Cameron says:

    Ms. Derrick,

Thank you for actually posting your response to Bob’s blogpost. Now I cannot answer the question of why Mr. Butters would have found posting such pictures to be acceptable. Perhaps in light of the fact people on the other side have posted similar and far worse pictures of former President Bush for the past eight years, he honestly thought it would not cause any problems? After all, free speech is good for all sides.

  7. OldnyFirefighter says:

Hey Bob, I just read your observation to my better half & she says who the hell likes hairy teabags anyway!

  8. Bob says:

I don’t know too many women that would enjoy being teabagged… :-P

  9. Ilion says:

I had read that “teabagging” was originally a “gay” term.

  10. Fuzzlenutter says:

My apologies, Bob. I just get viscerally angry with these people sometimes and strike out.

I promise to refrain from this point forward…

  11. onewiseguy says:

    Ike,

“The linguistically correct terminology for the “repetitive dangling of the scrotum over a man’s face” is ‘Keynesian Stimulus’.”

That was too darn funny. I had to forward that line to a buddy of mine who is big into economics and a strong follower of the Chicago and Austrian schools of economics.

  12. Ike says:

Bob, thank you for outlining that “teabagging” is the appropriate term for “repetitively dangling the scrotum above a woman’s face.”

The linguistically correct terminology for the “repetitive dangling of the scrotum over a man‘s face” is ‘Keynesian Stimulus‘.

  13. smcpatrick says:

Pretty weak defense. She used it but doesn’t condone it even though another site posted such? “Well all the other kids were doing it’ is an argument that an adult outgrows.

  14. jimmylewis says:

It’s been far too long since I’ve been here … I apologize Bob, but needed to take a hiatus from the world of politics … the Election of Obama and the course he’s set this nation on, I admit, caused me to hyperventilate uncontrollably. Now that I have caught my breath, and returned to my senses, I have decided to start up my blogging once more, as well as, review and research all of my resources.

I have to say Bob, after spending five hours this morning in that very mode, that I still find your topics, writing style, point of view, AND humor the best out there.

So glad to see you hard at work and still at it.

    Keep the Faith!

First of all, as B&R is also a visual site, I look for the visuals. And let’s knock off the slights on personal appearance. That’s so liberal and shit can come back very quickly and with much cruelty.
    Thanks,
    bp

  16. Fuzzlenutter says:

She looks like a dang blood-sucking vampire, is what she looks like…

  17. Nicolas says:

also, now that you posted a bigger shot of this liberal “dame”..she resembles fellow accuser of teabagging Janeane Garofalo

    coincidence?

  18. Nicolas says:

I’m amazed she had the spine to say her “piece” here on B&R..wonder how she found it?

speaking of teabagging (and your sons might know this, if they play games, more specifically shooter games), myself and others in numerous video game communities do the teabagging ritual in games. pretty common stuff
that’s just us though, hee hee

anyway, if anything, as crass as the left is, they likely would be the ones teabagging as they routinely break their own PC rules yet expect everybody else to follow them. Hell, I think OUR definition of “teabagging” would be ceremoniously throwing bags of small teabags into a nearby harbor, emulating our founding fathers

  19. MissJean says:

So THAT’s what “teabagging” means. When I first heard it, it was on MSNBC. I tried to get my students to tell me, but they were embarrassed!

As for Ms. Derrick wondering about why they were posted, perhaps she could contact Mr. Butters himself. That’s basic journalism. Doesn’t the Huffington Post have some employees with journalism backgrounds?
