FNC’s Carlson Slams Blogs

Gretchen Carlson, Fox & Friends, June 24, 2009
During a Wednesday morning segment of “Fox & Friends”, co-host Gretchen Carlson criticized the White House and it’s pre-planned question from The Huffington Post, saying that blogs are “opinion”, get things wrong and sometimes don’t tell the truth.

With all due respect to Ms. Carlson, we could laugh at the fact that we’re supposedly receiving credible journalism from a former Miss America.

Black & Right is commentary. That’s why people come here, and for that I’m grateful.

However, unlike the mainstream media, if I screw up and misreport something, I am contacted personally and I respond. If a network and/or newspaper makes a mistake, complaints are seldom responded to by the offender and corrections can take hours (if at all) to be issued.

As far as the credibility issue, I will only speak for myself.

I worked for the Fox Broadcasting Company in Hollywood long before there was a Fox News. Since then, I’ve been a Republican activist, appeared on talk and blog radio programs all over the country, appeared as a guest on BBC radio, CNN and C-SPAN twice, was elected Vice President for a statewide conservative group, and run for public office. My columns have appeared in many respected web publications and I’ve even been called an “African American leader” by the Washington Times. Despite that and web television success, my show will never appear on the Fox News Channel because I can’t rename it “Blonde & Right”, at least without some drastic cosmetic alterations.

I know Black & Right is only a blog, but I value my credibility. If Gretchen Carlson considers us lower tier, maybe she should go back and look at all the big stories that blogs broke; stories networks like hers blew off until they had no choice.

The problem with the big networks is that they a)claim to be impartial and b)are owned by big corporations. Blogs may or may not be businesses, but most are not in bed with big business. Besides, on blogs, if people think what you say is b.s., they will let you know. Let’s face it, blogs are competition and are helping render the old dinosaurs irrelevant.

Your blog’s name is Black and Right, your race and political leanings. A little more upfront then the big MSM’s. Fox does tend to have on, dare I say, too many babes. They do understand that looks matter in the visual realm and that is exactly their weakness. Blogs do not need that, being much more cerebral and dependenent on content. I learn much, much more from blogs. Average people who live at street level know much more about what others are really thinking and doing, how things really work.

Being in a media “ivory tower” is too much of a shelter. Reporters in the old days were much more “street” than they are now. Manhattan is a foreign country compared to most of the U.S and they need to get out to visit the rest of country a little more.

Black and Right wins hands down over “Blonde and Right” any day – Your commentary is worth far more than any television news show out there today – some people are just jealous :)

To quote Forrest Gump….”Stupid is as stupid does” (or says is this case).

she also needs to look at how the MSM broke the election process

also, we too value your credibility, Bob. That’s another reason, among many, why we come here. I’ve pretty much dropped cable news since December 08, and B&R is MORE than a replacement of cable MSM crap – it’s CREDIBLE, EXPERIENCED commentary with a little bit of everything good in the world thrown in

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – B&R is my new (online) newspaper, and we have a hell of a guy to thank for creating it, and everything he does.

So thank you for it, Bob.

Greater credibility and insight. Who could ask for anything more?

Oh yeah, visiting commentators with diverse “opinions” on a wide range of topics.

Besides, as an independent critical thinker, I can simply change the channel — I haven’t yet. Keep up the good work, Bob!

The biggest problems facing the msm, HP, DU, etc., is the lack of independent confirmation and verifiable citations. They also practice sleight-of-hand, which undermines any credibility they may have ever had. There is also the problem of self-contradiction, illogical and irrational analysis, obvious subjective bias (at least try to hide it), circular logic, circular citations, etc. Anyone remember the “journalists”, “experts”, and “analysts”, screeching from crisis to crisis for the past 8 years? Although, I do like WSJ.

I still laugh when an entry appears in ABC’s blog to cover the criminal activities of BS, MO, and his cronies in the conspiracy concerning CNCS, AmeriCorp, St. Hope, and others. Surely, an IG serving at the will of Congress, fired by a member of the Executive, should merit front page coverage, right?

Personally, I place great credibility in the notion of “indepedent confirmation” as the best means by which we can distinguish fact from fiction, ascertain bias, detect deception, etc. The “blog”, black-and-right.com, is one of the better aggregate news sites, with insightful commentary, and civilized visitors.

(Didn’t she break up a marriage or two on the way up her career ladder?)

Doesn’t matter… Miss Teen South Carolina will have her job soon enough.

Well, you know, when I’m looking for news and commentary, then I’m looking for news and commentary … not for someone pushing WonderBra (or worse, silicone) cleavage in my face

  8. Cotton says:

I agree with n.n. greater credibility and insight. I may not always agree with the postings but it does get me thinking. It also gives you an opportunity to actually get involved on subjects you really care about!

As I’ve told Bob before, this is the first place I visit when I grab my cup of coffee & start up the laptop in the morning. My second is WND, as between the two of them I have all of the information I need for the day. There are a lot of CCW blogs I read as well, as I am an avid Second Amendment supporter. I have very seldom found any mistakes news wise on this site & if there is an error Bob usually has it corrected in short order, usually with an apology. You will never find that on any MSM & usually they will ignore any comments they don’t like. Bob may not always agree with comments, but he is a believer of free speech & I doubt very much that he removes any unless they are extremely offensive. This is also a place that does not get into name calling or nasty comments against other people making comments or observations. I may be biased, but I think it is one of the best on the Internet. Thanks again Bob for your Professionalism.

Yeah, she’s only safe in that job until she offends somebody. E.D. Hill is my cousin (on my mom’s side) and she had a heck of a lot more brains that this twit. Wait until Carlson tries to use a provocative line to hook viewers into coming back to see more after the commercial (although the fact that the Obama’s were offended is the only reason anyone cared that E.D. did it)… I watched E.D. work her way up through the rank and file to get that job. And then just dumped for political reasons.

  11. Mommy RN says:

Oh, and yes… this is one of the first sites I pull up each day when I hit my computer… along with Jill Stanek and WND.
