Probation: Cop Walks After Beating Female Bartender

Karolina Obrycka (left) at the Cook County Criminal Courts Building in March 2008 (Michael Tercha/Chicago Tribune); Chicago police officer Anthony Abbate (right) before his sentencing today (AP Photo). So this is how things are done in Chicago. It’s now quite clear the lawlessness isn’t confined to politics but also the streets and at least one who patrols them.

A Chicago police officer was sentenced to two years probation today for beating up a woman who was tending bar. Anthony Abbate — who declined to say anything to the judge before he was sentenced — could have gotten up to five years for beating Karolina Obrycka.

Prior to imposing sentence, Fleming asked Abbate if he wanted to say anything but Abbate declined. He left the courthouse with his father and his fiancé, refusing to comment to reporters. Obrycka said outside the courtroom that she wished Abbate had said he was sorry.

“I’m very disappointed that he didn’t apologize for what he did,” she said, adding that she was also disappointed in the sentence he received.

Chicago thuggery under the umbrella of authority. Sounds very familiar.

I thought everyone understood (or at least strongly suspected) that in Chicago “law enforcement” looks like a Mafia operation.

She should find the shadiest Lawyer she can find & sue his ass off. Even if the Lawyer gets 60% or more, she will have the satisfaction of making a thugs pocketbook a lot smaller. It will also blow his credit rating as well.

C’mon folks, let’s be real here. Why should he get jail time? Watch the video. He was beating on a women half his size and kicking her while she was on the ground. Looks like self defense to me. Besides it’s not like he was beating on a poor defenseless puppy!

WTF is wrong with the judges in this country Vick gets 23 months in jail for dog fighting. Donte Stallworth gets 30 days jail and 2 years probation for killing a man?

Throw a baby off a bridge and it might make the evenining news. Throw a puppy or kitten of a bridge we hear about it for days.

I Agree with ONYFF sue his ass. And as far as Shady Lawyers go, I hear John Edwards is available.

  4. Bob Says:

According to some of the stories, the cop is being sued; I assume by the bartender.

  5. onewiseguy Says:

Bob, I certainly hope he’s being sued by her. The fact that he got off scot free when the evidence is overwhelming just shows once again how corrupt that City truly is.

@TexRex – “I hear John Edwards is available.” Good one! ;)

My mom grew up in Chicago. She said the physical fitness exam for the police department was how far you could run with a TV set under each arm.
