Ensign Busted

John EnsignOne Republican presidential candidate wannabe out of the way

Nevada Republican Sen. John Ensign said Tuesday evening he is “truly sorry” about an affair he had last year with a campaign staffer, going public with an embarrassing admission about his marital infidelity.

The news certainly damages any hope Ensign has of running for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 – he had fueled speculation about a presidential run with a recent visit to Iowa — and it may also hinder what has been a steady rise in Senate GOP leadership.

We can’t play “Guess the party affiliation” here because for some strange reason, Ensign’s was identified in the second word of the Politico piece. That’s probably a public service to spare us from taking up too much time wondering….

If John Ensign were a Democrat, this would be no big deal (even with a cigar). But as we’re running as the “family values” party, keep it zipped until you leave the picture.

We can’t play “Guess the party affiliation” here …

Well, damnit all to Hell! We haven’t played “Guess the party affiliation” in a while, and I was wanting to.

  2. IT Nerd Says:

I have had an affair while separated from my wife. Big deal.

As a resident and registered voter in the great state of NV, Sen. Ensign can count on my support.

By the way, he is a veterinarian by trade.

  3. The Machine Says:

He was threatened with blackmail, so he chose instead to go public, which certainly defeated the blackmailer (who was the husband of the woman involved).

  4. OldnyFirefighter Says:

At least he didn’t pull a Clinton – “I never had sex with that woman”, I always put my cigars in the humidifier to keep them fresh & moist!

You have to be precise in quoting Clinton:

“I did not have sexual relations with that woman…”

Sex implies intercourse, while sexual relations implies whatever he wanted it to mean. Personally, I though this was the quote to end all quotes. Then enters BS and his “best and brightest”, and all bets are off.

One of my favorites has been:

“I reject your economic theories.” – BS

Then the followup is just too funny not to repeat:

“Well, we are out of money now.” – BS (so let’s spend more)

    And, the widely popular:

“I have now been in 57 states… I think 1 left to go.” – BS

As for Ensign… He has been compromised. I have never been in his position; but, I hope that better judgement would prevail. I would select him as representative only in cases of “lesser evil.”

  6. The Machine Says:

Did you know that there currenly exist 57 muslim states in the world?

  7. n.n Says:

“there currenly exist 57 muslim states”

I did not know that. That would explain his misstatement, and they claimed it was because of fatigue — yah, right. It would also explain the following comment:

    http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026400.php

In an interview with Laura Haim on Canal Plus, a French television station, Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”

Then again, BS, it could also been seen as one of the largest Christian nations in the world, which, in fact, it is. Those damn Christians, creating wealth, prosperity, elevating people around the word, developing science and technology, arts, spreading the message of tolerance and charity — how dare they! In this, BS is correct, we should forget the sins of the past, and decry the Christian founders of this great nation, an oasis on Earth. Unfortunately, as we are aware, there are no people on this Earth who can claim the moral high ground. In fact, the Muslims have a rich history of rape and pillage, enslavement of infidels, etc. We should probably avoid referring to our nation as Muslim, if only to avoid future lawsuits.
