This story isn’t making huge news in the mainstream, at least as much as it would have been if George W. Bush closed car dealerships that donated to Democrats. Then again, President Bush wouldn’t have considered the auto dealerships his to take over as he saw fit.
As part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Chrysler is terminating one-fourth of its franchises – but some say its catalog of doomed dealerships looks more like a hit list that specifically seeks to put Republican donors out of business.
WND reviewed the list of 789 closing franchises and databases of political donors and found that of dealership majority owners making contributions in the November 2008 election, less than 10 percent gifted to Democrats while 90 percent gave substantial sums to Republican candidates.
The listed franchise owners contributed at least $450,000 to Republican presidential candidates and the GOP, while only $7,970 was donated to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign and $2,200 was given to Sen. John Edwards’ campaign. Obama received a combined total of only $450 in donations.
This can go two ways, as Republicans not only sold cars but we buy them as well. As of today, we still have the choice to go elsewhere.

I saw it just now on Fox, it turns out that 90% of ALL dealers are Republican (Think long established businesses, family owned, they just might lean conservative….)
You can’t really make anything of this unless you looked at all of Chrysler dealers and saw that it was out of proportion. In other words, if most Chrysler dealers are Republican anyway, then there’s nothing to get upset about.
Jews were required to wear the Star of David when the Nazi’s took control. How long before conservatives are forced to wear a red R?
Just askin…..
This story only works though if the dealerships that weren’t getting closed made more donations to the DNC canidates. I think most car dealerships fall under “small business” which (I’m guessing) made more donations to the GOP across the board.
Reading the article however it seems that WND is looking into that. Will be interesting to see what the results are.
A serious question: how does closing a dealer help Detroit?
I’m under the assumption that the dealer pays Detroit to be a dealer and kicks in for national advertising etc and buys the cars from Detroit…Detroit doesn’t give them to the the Dealer. My thinking is that Dealer pays, not Detroit.
Am I wrong? Again, this is a serious question since I must be wrong about the dealer/manufacture relationship. Thanks.
