A little national poll I frequently participate in…
Would it be politically smart for Republicans to try to block the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor?

Yes
“If President McCain were making a SCOTUS nomination, the left would be demanding his selection be a moderate. Obama chose a clear liberal with no consideration to his ideological opponents. Republicans should try to block (not Bork) Sotomayor’s nomination. What’s good for the goose…”
Bob Parks, Black And Right
But you read that here first.

Ignore all attempts at ground noise and static such as this, concentrate on the battle alone.
When is it ever wrong to do the right thing, stand by the principles that one espouses? If the Republicans back down due to political expediency they have no credibility left.
I think that is what has gotten the Republican party where it is now. Folks like Specter and McCain prefer political expedience over substance of character. That being said, I voted for McCain ONLY because I believed that Obama would do what he said he would do. I would have rather done a “Brewster’s Millions” and had a “none of the above” box to check, or better yet “none of the above, do over”.
Hey Hoss, what’s the difference between voting against her and blocking her?
I don’t think they should try to block her, it’s useless and her trail leads back to George I, BUT the Republicans must paint a very vivid picture of who she is and how her ideology would conflict with her duties to uphold the Constitution. Box her into a corner without Borking her, vote against her, and make it a point to emphasize Obama’s complete lack of skills in judging peoples capabilities.
Hell yes it’s worth the battle. It is the duty of the GOP to expose this woman for who she really is. The Democrats aren’t going to do it for us. It is the GOP’s obligation to question her ridiculous past decisions and some of the racist things she’s said. It doesn’t matter if the GOP is successful in stopping her appointment. The GOP must represent itself — distinguish itself by standing up against radicals as such as Sotomayor. What’s the option? Vacation?
and by all accounts, it legally should’ve BEEN President McCain
that aside, I’m starting to get the feeling the term “moderate” is a cloak & dagger way of saying “leaning left” with absolutely NO moderation at ALL..
