Americans grow happier as they age, surveys find. And a new Pew Research Center survey shows the tendency is holding up as the economy tanks.
Happiness is a complex thing. Past studies have found that happiness is partly inherited, that Republicans are happier than Democrats, and that old men tend to be happier than old women.
And even before the economy got nasty, seniors were found to be generally happier than Baby Boomers. Some of that owes to the American Dream being lived by past generations, while Boomers work two jobs and watch the dream wither.
Let’s not leave out that for decades, liberals have drummed into the heads of Amercians that the young are victims of war-mongering elders, women are victims of sexist men, and most of those who vote Democrat are victims of the screw-everyone policies of Republicans.
People like Ronald Reagan was an optimist and the nation followed suit. Democrats tend to talk down America, magnify and/or create crisises, and offer solutions only when seeking to get elected. Those solutions tend to disappear once they get elected.

Given that so many women aren’t happy unless they’re bitching about something (generally, about men), it rather stands to reason, doesn’t it?

Conservatives come from a position of optimism. They have beliefs: belief in God, belief in Country, Belief in the Individual, and belief in Freedom. Leftists come from a position of pessimism, self-doubt, and self-loathing. They want government to use its power to force you to catch them as they undoubtedly fail, and to pursue issues that they are too gutless or stingy to pursue themselves. Selfish bastards.
