Were The First Europeans Bruthas?

The first modern European: Forensic artist Richard Neave reconstructed the face based on skull fragments from 35,000 years agoThis doesn’t exactly match the master race template. I guess they’ve grown…

Dressed in a suit, this person would not look out of place in a busy street in a modern city.

The clay sculpture, however, portrays the face of the earliest known modern European – a man or woman who hunted deer and gathered fruit and herbs in ancient forests more than 35,000 years ago.

It was created by Richard Neave, one of Britain’s leading forensic scientists, using fossilised fragments of skull and jawbone found in a cave seven years ago.

This won’t sit well with the Aryan Nation. I could actually greet them with, “What’s up, blood!”

    Well, yes, actually! :-)

Here is one webpage (but you can check out the rest of the site for a lot more information) talking about how closely related all of us are. As far as I’m concerned, the only race is the human race.

The best answer I’ve read on why Europeans have light skin is that all of our ancestors started out as basically the same mid-brown, but due to the low amount of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere, people whose skin was too dark tended to have a vitamin D deficiency, which may have led to problems like rickets and other diseases, which caused them to die earlier than lighter-skinned people, or be unable to reproduce (for example, rickets causes bone deformities; if the pelvis is malformed, women may not be able to give birth, thus they and their children will die during childbirth, without modern medicine like safe C-sections). In the equator and southern regions, the reverse situation was true — lighter-skinned people tended to die out and have problems due to over-exposure (think skin cancer). Perhaps not the precise answer, but I think it’s a pretty darn good one.

    Katsy, don’t get me wrong.
This is just an opportunity for me to mess with the supremacists.

  3. Mauser says:

I just have to wonder how bit a “fragment” they had to work with. You’ve seen them postulate a T.Rex with a single bone the size of your finger.

I imagine we all started out as a mix of every physical diversity there is in the world. Genetically, we’re all related, no matter what you look like.

All our possible variations are already locked in our genetic code, just like with dogs and other species.

I, too, think it was the geographical locations that eventually caused the variations, since over time certain traits would survive better under certain conditions.

Katsy:As far as I’m concerned, the only race is the human race.

Depending on what is meant, what a trivally tautological thing to say … or what a supremely silly thing to say.

If one is using “race” as a stand-in for “biological species,” or if one is using the term ‘race’ correctly in a fully generic fashion to mean simply “all beings who share the trait of being human beings” (which usage can *also* be replaced by an unqualified ‘species’ or ‘kind’), then, of course, there is only one human race.

But, if one is using “race” correctly in some specific and restricted fashion (cf: “the English race” or “the race of fishmongers“), of which the common and popular use of ‘race’ to refer to certain complexes of biological characteristics is but one example, then one is speaking nonsense in saying that “there is only one race.”

When I was a child in gradeschool and certain bullies would daily threaten my younger siblings and me because we are white (technically, we’re of mixed European and Indian descent, but what the heck, we look European) and they were black, I, being the oldest, tried to reason with them on the basis of the belief Katsy expresses.

My parents (conservative Christians and my father a “po’ white trash” Southerner), you see, had taught us what Christianity teaches: that all men are ultimately one family.

Do I really need to tell you that my attempts to reason with the black bullies did not work? That we had to fight, which is something our parents believed to be contrary to Christianity, or learn to run. I was in sixth grade, my brother in fourth, my sisters in second grade; how do you think running worked out?

Does this make me eligible for reparations if they ever come?

  7. Kushin Los says:

Considering the white supremacists out there that believe in evolution, some will not find this a problem.

  8. Nick says:

“This won’t sit well with the Aryan Nation. I could actually greet them with, “What’s up, blood!” ”

I’d love to hear their reaction to that.

“As far as I’m concerned, the only race is the human race.”

I think you’ll only hear that kind of sentiment from a conservative, so well done! that’s a hell of a way to ULTIMATELY ABOLISH the whole “race” issue with regard to skin color, which never should have reared it’s ugly head in the FIRST place. We are a HUMAN race, and shouldn’t be divided by things like color, etc

  9. Ilion says:

Nick, don’t be silly just because some persons in that past have been silly. And *never* be silly just becasue “liberals” always insist upon being silly.

Biological race is real — in some circumstances it’s important; in others not at all; and in some others to even make note of it is immoral.
