Sometimes the first family reminds me of no-class welfare recipients who just hit the lottery, proudly flaunting their good fortune…

Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.
While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.
Can you imagine how the press would have savaged Laura Bush if she wore $500 sneakers to a venue that feeds the poor?

BOB YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE MARK!
There is a double standard in the press (that is permeating into society in general) where republicans are held much more tightly to higher standards whereas democrats loosely to much lower standards.
Case after case can be made. The most recent examples that come to mind are the teleprompter incident with Obama, the air force one photo op in NYC, or that Supreme Court justices should be “empathetic”. If Bush had done/said either of these there would be a field day in the news about how stupid/dumb/cruel/evil/etc he is.
Not even the appearance of self-sacrifice.
The campaign is over. They won.
With paddles like those, she could’ve given Michael Phelps a run for the gold.
Awww come on people, she is only living within her means!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those are ugly shoes, I’ll keep my $15 tennie shoes from wal-mart!
And how many times is Lady Marcos there going to wear those $500 sneakers?
A couple summers ago, kids bought canvas sneakers from Kmart or the Dollar General and painted them with markers and tied them with ribbon. Looks like a French designer copied the idea, raised the price, and sold it to fools. Then again, I’m not the client base. Those shoes and $20 would make my mortgage payment.
Remember when various media outlets trashed Sarah Palin’s campaign wardrobe? Based on the rest of the article, I’d guess the First Lady’s wardrobe is in the same league:
“Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin (the French designer who made the shoe) before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line’s chiffon tank. Dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000.”
I had no idea SNEAKERS of all things could be $500…jeeze..are made of some rare material or something? that’s a JOKE to wear $500 sneakers..COME ON!
500 dollar shoes
Thousands of dollars on Scare Force One Photo Op
I’ve had enough of “Change”
I don’t find any kind of sneaker to be a good look for a woman, but these are especially unflattering. My first thought was also Wow, what big feet she has. However, my father always said that they only put small foundations under outhouses so to each his own on foot size.
Fugly those “shoes” are.
Does this mean we’re done with the Jackie O comparisons? Thank goodness.
She could have just as easily gotten shoes as ugly as those at Goodwill for $4. But she opts to spend over 100 times that amount… and for what? They really don’t look that high-quality either. Then again, many people chose the Obamas themselves for trendiness rather than quality… so I guess that makes it all okay?
Yes those are ugly shoes. Isn’t it odd that the outrageously priced “status” items like this are so often ugly?
Shoot! At least Keds (which were quite ugly) were cheap!
Nerd, you said a mouthful. I agree, they are about the ugliest shoes I have seen in a long time. I did see a woman in the Mall in Florida that had a pair of pink ones with a lime green border on the bottom – ugly isn’t the proper word to describe them, but I guess different strokes for different folks. My wife doesn’t even like me to wear my T-shirt that says “Gun Control is using two Hands”. She says it makes me sound Arrogant. I am when some clown tells me I shouldn’t have one, but that’s just me!
Yes, we can!
That is an ugly pair of shoes.
Are we allowed to point out that she has big feet?
Emphasis on loafers.
As HotAir pointed out, the MSM actually did make a big deal out of McCain’s $500 loafers during the campaign.
I have a pair of $50 made in the USA shoes (one of the very few left).
I’m happy with them. I don’t need bling on my shoes. I don’t need to spend $500 for a pair to look ‘trendy’. Heck, for that much money you’d think she’d be able to afford pants that go all the way down to her ankles.
