Bonehead Of The Day

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano takes questions from the media in Los Angeles, on Monday, April 13, 2009. (AP / Damian Dovarganes)Thanks to the Obama Administration, the phrase “best and the brightest” may forever become a joke in the American lexicon. We get new examples every day…

Ottawa was rushing to defend its border security on Tuesday amid a diplomatic scuffle with the U.S., which erupted after Washington’s homeland security chief suggested that the 9-11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano made the comments during a media interview earlier this week, much to the chagrin of Canadians on both sides of the border.

Great move, Madam Secretary. This too must be the whole reaching out and restoring our standing in the world thing.

So far, we’ve bowed and accepted gifts from questionable allies and downright enemies, while totally disrespecting our only real allies. Best and brightest? Let’s hope we won’t need the B-team.

While not Ottawa, there was a terrorist attack thwarted at the border of Washington and British Columbia on their side back in 2000 (or round about). So far, I’d say the Canadians are doing a better job.

    *bonks head on desk repeatedly*

Hasn’t that point about the 9/11 terrorists having come from Canada been disproved…7 years ago?

Heavens, those Statist ignoramuses sometimes make me boil…

i of course have a different take on this.
i thought they came from saudi arabia.
    15 of them at least.
OH GAWD, DON’T CRITICIZE OUR ETERNAL FRIENDS!!!!!!!
    ragheads.

To think, most likely by the fall we’re most likely be stuck under a new government…led by Michael Ignatieff. (interestingly he is the grandson of the last russian tsar’s economic advisor)

Harvard Graduate and teacher…but seems more centered than most Harvardites, as he initially supported the Iraqi deployment (of course changed his tune once the conflict got bogged down)

Why oh WHY are we stuck with Stephen Harper as PM??? The only good thing with the likely outcome of the next election is that someone with a better agenda will come up to replace Harper…

If it is any consolation, she threw all of us veterans here under the bus first.

    Keep fighting.

She’s just following tradition. Prez Clinton spoke of doing more business with Canada, unaware that Canada was our #1 trading partner. I believe then-ambassador Jim Blanchard (D, former Michigan governor) had to grit his teeth from slapping the POTUS.

Napolitano has a stereotype that the northern border is like the southern one. I’ve heard (repeatedly) supporters of open borders say rhetorically, “Why don’t they build a fence to keep out Canadians?” I get blank stares when I point out that a great part of the northern border is defined by natural barriers, such as the Great Lakes. And that the vast majority of Canadians want to go home at the end of their trip.

BTW I live between the two busiest border crossings in North America: Detroit-Windsor and Port Huron-Sarnia. They handle almost half the traffic crossing the US/Canada border. I wonder if Napolitano knows anything about them? ;)
