Makes me wonder what he’d say if he were in the good ol’ US of A…?

I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not. I’m really confused now. If you’re too free, you’re like the way Hong Kong is now. It’s very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic.
I’m gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we’re not being controlled, we’ll just do what we want.
— Jackie Chan
“…we Chinese need to be controlled.”
Do you really think he includes himself?

You would be surprised about what scares people. He’s afraid of the very freedom that we generally take for granted here (and that says a lot given that we aren’t even as marginally free as our grandparents were).
He’s an actor, he speaks the lines they give him.
Well, he’s not a Chinese citizen anymore, he became a US citizen a while back but his son gave up his US citizenship and went back to make movies.
Jackie Chan scared? Like what are the Chinese going to do, hang him from a helicopter or put him on the side of a moving bus or throw him off the side of a building…?
If he were consistent he would, but to point out something he didn’t come from this position and likely could be convinced out of it. Isn’t Chinese history just one long period of controlling people? Maybe he’s just scared.
