While he must truly believe all of the American people are firmly behind him, Barack Obama is going where few politicians have gone and come out intact. This topic may have cost John McCain the presidential election and the blow-back to President Obama may be interesting to watch unfold.
While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Obama plans to begin addressing the country’s immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.
Now that’s change we’ve all been waiting for.
Mr. Obama will frame the new effort — likely to rouse passions on all sides of the highly divisive issue — as “policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system,” said the official, Cecilia Muñoz, deputy assistant to the president and director of intergovernmental affairs in the White House.
Kicking them out would be a great start, but what’s my opinion worth? I’m just an ordinary American.
Curious how the president intends to keep a campaign pledge to illegals while breaking numerous promises to citizens. President Obama’s broken promises may have been legal and financially driven, but illegal immigrants have flaunted the law and their presence costs American taxpayers more than the joy of having them here.

It’s my belief that some form of amnesty will have to occur sooner or later. In a perfect world, the borders would be airtight and we’d round up and deport any illegal immigrants. With the swiss cheese borders we have, and the several million illegals, that’s just not possible. So we’re left with the fact of illegals within our borders taking up resources and services provided by taxpayers to our own detriment. It will need to come down to a couple different things: close the borders and stop all incoming illegals and grant amnesty to those here so that they can start paying into the tax system, social security, etc. Or change entirely to a fair tax type system based on consumption. That way illegals would be paying into the system for the services they use.
Either way is a slap in the face to legal immigrants and Americans alike, but the status quo is not sustainable.
Following the law, abiding by the law and supporting the law is “work” that illegal aliens just won’t do. Two different groups have emerged in America today due to the effect of illegal immigration, those who have to obey the law (citizens) and those who don’t (illegal aliens).
Legalizing an illegal alien’s presence in America by rewarding their illegal behavior through amnesty is not the way to build a good system of law and order. It only invites more criminal activity and more avoidance of our laws.
We tried ‘comprehensive immigration reform’ in 1986. We gave amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens in exchange for the government promising to secure the borders, conduct workplace enforcement and enforce immigration law. It didn’t work because the government lied and did nothing other than process the amnesty paperwork. Due to that folly, we now have 20 Million or more illegal aliens here demanding amnesty. Don’t you think it is far beyond time that we engage in Comprehensive Immigration ENFORCEMENT rather than Comprehensive Immigration Reform?
Get on the phone, fax and e-mail your Senators and Representatives and DEMAND that they engage in Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, not reform that awards amnesty.
Obama is intent on getting his nationalized health care and globalwarming/cap and trade/energy reform legislation passed this year. He’s also every bit as committed to getting citizenship for illegal immigrants but realizes it could further splinter and already fractured public, so its likely he will engage in a propaganda campaign, utilizing the pro-illegal mouthpiece organizations (taxpayer supported, no less) like LaRaza to try to shape the debate this year. He plans on using momentum from successfully passing more of his agenda to power through ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reform” (Amnesty), likely to take place during the last quarter of 2009 or even early next year.
We’ve got a de facto amnesty going on now with no interior enforcement, including no enforcement against the employers illegally hiring the illegals. Team Obama has forbidden workplace raids and instead is raiding sheriffs engaged in the 287(g) illegal alien removal program, like Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa County-AZ, who are actually enforcing the law. It’s nuts.
Granting amnesty is a massive bailout for illegal immigration, pillages the American taxpayer, floods our country with even more third-worlders because of the effect of chain migration once illegals are legalized and encourages more invasion of our country.
Hey, machine! He wouldn’t freeze, he would walk, get his legs blown off & continue. Don’t forget he’s the “Messiah” he can perform miracles & is more than a mortal man! Yeah, right! He sure as hell can’t talk without his Telle Prompter – uh ah ah uh ummm ouch, as Michelle smacks him along side the head!
Not long ago I used to get very angry about this crap. Now I laugh at it, because after all of their F*&$ups they won’t be able to get a job as even a Dump Picker. My blood pressure is back to normal, wait, I don’t feel a pul ——–
another thing I don’t understand is why isn’t this an easy issue? It’s should be clear as day. Those who haven’t broken any other law, who are here illegally shouldn’t be given rights until they fill out the papers to become a US citizen. Should be as simple as that
Why must Dems make it so damn difficult? oh that’s right..they don’t believe in the northern [Canadian] & southern [Mexican] border…
“Curious how the president intends to keep a campaign pledge to illegals while breaking numerous promises to citizens”
He, like many Dems, suffer from D.D.D.
He’d freeze up in a minefield.
