Why I Won’t Be “Principled”

I must admit to being truly amazed at the conservative pushback towards my column this morning regarding the NMATV-Fox-Family Guy issue.

While the introduction of race (in this case) was gratuitous, it’s sad that conservatives have so quickly forgotten how the left uses race against us all the time. While abhorrent, we usually cave and the left wins.

I see this as a golden opportunity to make our ideological opponents think twice before launching into any fraudulent race campaign against us, as they’ll know we can and will push back.

As I wrote to one conservative commenter,

“The video in question was uploaded and embedded to a site that is aggressively pushing back against the gay lobby. It is there that the commentary is provided. The fact that the video itself doesn’t have the full text is by the choice of the user. At NMATV, we don’t censor user comments.”

That covers the video with respect to the Copyright Law of 1976 and its Fair Use.

Fox’s demands of NMATV are selective and should we have to go to court and prove it, they will have to divulge why our one video is copyright infringement and the dozens of similar vids on YouTube are not. Maybe Google has an agreement with Fox we are unaware of, but as we weren’t offered a similar agreement, that can also be considered discriminatory as well.

And as far as use of the dreaded race card, it is unfortunate I had to go there, but at some point someone has to put an end to it’s unnecessary deployment, and if that person is I (and I have to go about it without the help of “principled” conservatives), so be it.

Also, the American Family Association‘s use of the video (via NMATV), as it turns out, is not about the gay lobby, but Family Guy’s use of primetime “nudity” which they consider anti-family and offensive. Why the gay lobby has chosen to get involved, via cracking and attempting to damage our site, is their issue.
