I understand the need for police officers to defend themselves, but when a near-hysterical woman leaves an automobile (with flashers activated) in a hospital parking lot claiming her mother is dying, couldn’t the formalities be completed later?
I don’t think the officer in question should be fired, but he should also think about what he would do if in the same position.
Granted, police officers can’t take chances, but c’mon, when the nurse came out and tried to hurry the men in to see mother-in-law who was calling for them (and didn’t make it), was a red light violation worth it?

Nothing, neither common sense nor compassion nor anything else, takes presidence over filling government quotas.
“did everything he was supposed to do”
at the expense of the moment of an in-law dying? If I was the officer, I’d have put that issue on HOLD for crying out loud until AFTER they’d seen the dying mother in law…that cop’s ass needs to be kicked to the curb…
Before the scene in the parking lot, that car was SPEEDING and RUNNING several red lights, paying NO HEED to the cops chasing with their lights and sirens.
When the car stops, several people hop out and act agitated.
The cop was an ass at one point, but his initial response was totally appropriate.
Multiple reports say the car WAS NOT speeding and “slowly” went through a red light with the police car following.
I have mixed feelings about this. I can see both sides and can’t choose who’s right and who’s wrong. I’m sure cops have heard all kinds of stories when they pull someone over. I’m wondering would it have been against regulations for the cop to follow him into the hospital room? Perhaps Moats should have pulled over and asked the cop for an escort? This is a toughie.
“I can verify that you have insurance or I can tow the car.”
Fine. Tow the car – I’ll be inside.

Yes, the formalities should have been taken care of later, someone’s dying, when the nurse came out, that should of been the end of it.
Cop should lose his badge.

See, heres the problem and why police are losing their power. The cop turned on his lights. That means you STOP. What he should have done was immediately stop and then told the police the situation. Had this spoiled rotten NFL player cooperated from the very beginning, the cop more than likely would have been a whole lot more sympathetic.
When a person refuses to stop the cop has NO idea what hes dealing with. Usually when a person refuses to stop that usually means danger.
This is going to be yet another thing for officers to be worried about and will end up cost more lives. Because a cop is going to hesitate because hes worried about getting in trouble, losing his job and being declared a disgrace to the badge even though he might not be one.
This kind of thing is what got 4 cops killed by a suspected rapist.
